We’re actively seeking a talented Senior Accountant II to join our Real Estate Equity Accounting and Operations team in Newport Beach, CA.

This role is mostly on-site. You’ll work at our state-of-the-art Newport Beach headquarters 4 days a week, with some hybrid flexibility. We believe in empowering our employees to get work done both in and out of the office.
As a Senior Accountant II you’ll move Pacific Life, and your career, forward by contributing to the support of the accounting team that is processing cash and financial activity for Pacific Life and its subsidiaries’ real estate equity investments, and supporting our front office acquisitions and asset management teams. In addition, this position is responsible for leading various Financial Reporting and Asset Management objectives and performing ad-hoc requests related to real estate equity investments.

You will fill an existing role that sits on a team of 7 people in the Corporate Division (Investment Accounting & Reporting - Real Estate Equity Investments). Your colleagues will include Staff Accountants, Senior Accountants, Directors of Accounting, our Pacific Life Investments Real Estate Equity Acquisition and Asset Management teams, and external auditors, among others.
 

How you’ll help move us forward:

Operations Responsibilities:

  • Indirectly oversee staff to ensure operational tasks are done accurately, timely, and issues are resolved immediately

  • Ensure Cash receipts and disbursements are properly handled and recorded

  • Ensure Cash activity tracker is complete and accurate

  • Set up property information and banking information in Yardi on an ad-hoc basis

Accounting/Reporting Responsibilities:

  • Review monthly trial balance uploads of underlying investment financial statements, which includes the review of underlying investment financial statements to gain a deeper understanding of fluctuations.

  • Review Accountant II(s) and the Sr. Accountants journal entries

  • Review non-financial key performance indicator (KPI) uploads on a monthly basis for real estate investments

  • Prepare complex monthly and quarterly reports for the financial close process

  • Prepare quarterly financial statement analytics

  • Review the accountants’ quarterly financial statement analyses

  • Ensure the integrity of accounting records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with GAAP and STAT

  • Communicate with property managers to resolve any complex changes or issues

  • Supportive role in the PAH, PL and Internal audits and prepare deliverables for those audits.

  • Assist with coordination of the Purchase Price Allocation process, from engagement letter review and submission in DocuSign to Asset Management final sign off, to processing payment upon completion of the work to our outside vendors.

  • Assist in the review of our investments tax returns

  • Assist with the preparation of Return Summary calculations for sold properties and related files upon sign off by Asset Management.

Leadership/Teamwork Responsibilities:

  • Provide support and mentor Accountant II's and Sr. Accountants in their day-to-day responsibilities.

  • Maintain a positive attitude and willingness to help the team

  • Have very good verbal and written communication. Keep open communication with staff and management.

  • Maintain good relations with key business partners and stakeholders

Innovation Responsibilities:

  • Be supportive of company-wide, departmental, and team strategic initiatives

  • Lead special projects on an as-needed basis

  • Continue to asses areas for continuous improvement as items are identified on a real-time basis, make suggestions, as well as seek feedback from team members.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Take full ownership of assigned tasks and reports and be accountable during tight deadlines.

  • Ability to multi-task and shift priorities, if needed

  • Have initiative to solve issues independently with minimal guidance. Be forward thinking and anticipate questions from management

  • Pay close attention to detail and ensure documentation of workpapers is clean and easy to follow

  • Ensure enough time is provided for the review to go through files, provide comments, and clear comments prior to submission due dates

  • Stay organized, be flexible, and open to new ideas

The experience you bring:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA preferred and 8+ years of relevant experience.

  • Experience with property management, investment accounting, joint venture structures is preferred.

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Teams, SharePoint, Yardi Voyager are must haves.

  • Analytical thinking and attention to detail, strong communication skills both written and oral are required.

Base Pay Range:

The base pay range noted represents the company’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.

$110,700.00 - $135,300.00
