ComputerCare is creating an internal accounting department after previously outsourcing the accounting function. Thishands-on Senior Accountant role is suited to someone with approximately three to four years of relevant experience and will be part of an initial two-person accounting team, reporting directly to the Controller.

The immediate priorities are customer invoicing, customer account maintenance, accounts receivable, and sales tax administration. An external accounting firm will initially handle some account reconciliations and portions of the monthly close. The function is expected to move fully in-house over approximately 12 months, with this role taking on additional accounting responsibilities as the transition progresses.

What You'll Do Initially

    Customer invoicing and customer accounts
    • Prepare and issue timely, accurate customer invoices; work with internal teams to resolve billing questions and discrepancies.

    • Record and apply customer payments and credit memos accurately. Confirm that each customer has the appropriate credits on their account and research unapplied payments and credit balances.

    • Coordinate refunds and account adjustments under established approval procedures, maintaining supporting documentation.

    • Respond to customer billing inquiries and reconcile customer account balances.

    • Accounts receivable and collections
      • Monitor AR aging and provide first-line follow-up on overdue invoices, payment discrepancies, and disputed balances.

      • Work with customers and other team members on collections in coordination with the Controller; maintain follow-up records and escalate unresolved items.

      • Provide the Controller with updates on aging, collection activity, and accounts requiring attention.

      • Sales tax administration
        • Handle day-to-day sales tax administration under the Controller’s oversight, including reviewing tax charged on customer invoices and researching discrepancies.

        • Maintain customer exemption certificates and supporting sales tax records.

        • Prepare sales tax account reconciliations, investigate differences, and coordinate corrections with the Controller and external providers.

        • Coordinate and monitor sales tax return preparation and filing by external providers, review supporting information, and track filing and payment deadlines.

        • Assist with sales tax notices and information requests, referring technical questions and compliance decisions to the Controller and external tax advisors.

Roles and Responsibilities

Additional duties will be assigned progressively by the Controller as work transitions from the external accounting firm. These may include:

    • Prepare recurring and adjusting journal entries, supporting schedules, and balance sheet account reconciliations.

    • Complete assigned monthly close tasks within the Controller’s close schedule and assist with financial reporting and variance analysis.

    • Maintain fixed asset records and record depreciation, payroll, benefits, and related accruals.

    • Support accounts payable, including invoice coding, approval routing, vendor inquiries, vendor records, and payment preparation under established approval controls.

    • Assist with expense reports, corporate card reconciliations, 1099 preparation, and supporting schedules for external tax preparers.

    • Learn existing processes from the external accounting firm and help transfer supporting records and workpapers.

    • Follow procedures and controls established by the Controller, help document and implement them, and provide input on recurring issues or practical improvements.

What You'll Bring

    • 4+ years of relevant accounting experience, including hands-on customer invoicing, customer account maintenance, and accounts receivable.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
    • Working knowledge of sales tax administration, including sales tax account reconciliations, exemption certificates, and coordination of return preparation and filing.
    • Understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and the monthly close process.
    • Demonstrated curiosity and ownership mindset; notices recurring issues or patterns and proactively raises them as opportunities for improvement, even when the solution falls outside their direct responsibility.
    • Strong attention to detail, follow-through, and ability to research and resolve account discrepancies.
    • Clear, professional communication skills and comfort coordinating billing and collections with customers and internal teams.
    • Ability to manage recurring deadlines and take on additional responsibilities as the department develops.
    • Experience with NetSuite preferred.
