The Senior Accountant manages core accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, compliance with GAAP, and process improvements.
Position Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing and executing core accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, month-end close, financial reporting, and account reconciliations. This role plays a key part in ensuring the accuracy of financial data, compliance with GAAP, and support for audits and tax compliance. The ideal candidate will be highly detail-oriented, analytical, and capable of improving processes to support a growing organization.
Key Responsibilities
- General Accounting
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, including preparation of financial statements.
- Manage fixed assets and depreciation schedules.
- Expense Management
- Manage accounts payable coding, approvals, and expense accruals.
- Support payroll journal entries and employee benefit reconciliations.
- Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare and analyze monthly balance sheet and income statement variances.
- Support management with financial performance analysis and reporting.
- Assist in preparing schedules for audits, tax and external reporting requirements.
- Compliance & Controls
- Ensure adherence to internal control policies and GAAP standards.
- Support the implementation of accounting policies and procedures.
- Participate in external and internal audit and tax requests and compliance reviews.
- System & Process Improvement
- Support ERP (e.g., NetSuite, Bill.com, Divvy, Expensify) maintenance and data accuracy.
- Identify opportunities for automation and process improvements.
- Assist with integration of new systems or subsidiaries, if applicable.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.
CPA or CPA candidate strongly preferred.
3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a corporate or public accounting environment.
Experience with SaaS, digital health, or multi-entity structures a plus.
Technical Skills
Strong proficiency with Excel and accounting software (NetSuite or similar).
Familiarity with GAAP, ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition), ASC 340 (Deferred Commissions) and ASC 350 (Software Capitalization).
Experience with financial reporting tools and reconciliations.
Soft Skills
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Attributes
Experience in venture-backed or high-growth companies.
Comfort with cross-functional collaboration (HR, Operations, FP&A).
Prior involvement in system implementation or process optimization initiatives.
