The Senior Accountant role is part of MetLife's Group Benefits Finance team, which sits within the broader Finance organization and plays a critical role in supporting the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting for the Group Benefits business. This team is responsible for ensuring compliance with GAAP, maintaining reliable accounting records, and supporting key financial processes that enable effective decision-making across the organization.
The Senior Accountant will assist in the preparation of financial statements and support the month-end close process, including expense analysis and accruals. Responsibilities include preparing detailed expense schedules, recording payroll entries and related accruals, and ensuring accurate calculation of monthly commissions. The role will also manage monthly allocations, reconcile corporate credit card expenses, and record bank activity to the general ledger. Additionally, the Senior Accountant will provide documentation and analysis for internal and external audits and perform other duties as needed to maintain compliance and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Month-end and quarter-end close activities for assigned Group Benefits products, ensuring timely and accurate financial results.
- Create Journal entries, account reconciliations, and support schedules that maintain compliance with GAAP and statutory requirements.
- Oversee The integrity of financial reporting processes, including adherence to internal controls and SOX compliance standards.
- Manage Documentation and deliverables for internal and external audits, providing clear analysis and explanations to auditors and stakeholders.
- Develop Written analyses of financial results, variance explanations, and supporting schedules that inform leadership decisions and drive operational excellence.
- Coordinate Collaboration across Finance and business teams to resolve issues, improve processes, and ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate standards.
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
Required:
- 2+ years accounting experience in public or corporate setting.
- Bachelor's degree in related field.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, meet deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced work environment
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with different levels of organization
- Must be detail-oriented and a self-starter
- Ability to exercise good judgment and make sound decisions independently; escalate issues appropriately
- Ability to participate in interactive meetings on a regular and predictable basis
Preferred:
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant)
- Experience in health insurance industry preferred
- Experience with Netsuite
