Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer

Job Title:  

Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer 

 

Overview of the Position: 

Speedcast delivers highly customizable, critical communication solutions for remote sites (think satellite communications). As a Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer, you will be working with a team of software, systems and network engineers, to develop and deliver next-generation communication products over a variety of common and highly specialized communication paths. 

 

The Speedcast Data Engineering Team is responsible for providing near real-time (NRT) and long-term analytics for the company. Our core workloads are focused on AWS and our data lakehouse, in this we utilize the “Shift Left approach using a data mesh. 

 

A successful candidate will be capable of working both independently and as a part of a team. They will actively and confidently promote improvements and incorporate new technologies throughout the lifecycle of each product. They will be responsible for maintaining cloud infrastructure, network integrations and security process that enable the delivery of our AWS-hosted Data services. 

 

What you will do: 

  • Implementation: Design, implement and maintain our Cloud environment and ensure standards and guardrails are maintained that align with both industry and company-defined security requirements, for a multitude of tools (e.g., AWS EKS, Lambda’s, MWAA) and other Hosted solutions, such as Confluent and Timescale. 

  • Training and Awareness: Promote a culture of cloud devops and best practices within the team and help train the other members of the team, building a constructive environment.  

  • Security Assessments: Conduct architecture reviews and risk assessments for data lakehouse workloads on AWS.  

  • Infrastructure Maintaining: Define the group standards and templates for commonly used cloud architecture patterns and services using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) (e.g., Terraform and CloudFormation).  

  • Administration: Perform administrative tasks related to identity and access management and cloud integrations, analyze application performance using various tools and techniques, identify improvement areas and recommend design changes for maintaining operational excellence. 

 

What we need from you: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, or other related technical majors.  

  • 5+ years of experience serving in Cloud Architect, Cloud DevOps Engineer or in similar roles. 

  • Deep understanding of core Cloud services across a broad range of subject domains, including compute, database, identity and networking in AWS. 

  • Experience with multi-layered Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools (CloudFormation + Terraform). 

  • Experience in high-level programing (Python) 

  • Experience in SQL and caching databases (e.g., MySQL, Postgres, S3) 

  • Solid experience with Linux shell scripts  

  • Experience with source version control (git and GitHub). 

  • Experience in CI/CD Pipelines. 

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. 

  • Proficiency with all aspects of the software configuration management (SCM) process, DevOps, and Cloud Infrastructure. 

 

Even better if you have: 

  • AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Developer, AWS Solutions Architect, Advanced Networking, Solutions Architect) are a plus.  

  • Familiarity with common industry and government compliance standards, such as SOC 2 and GDPR. 

  • Certifications in the field of networking (e.g. CCNA, CCNP). 

  • Experience in Streaming Services (e.g. Kafka, MQTT) 

  • Experience developing and operating applications in serverless (AWS Lambda) and container-based (AWS ECS and EKS) environments. 

  • Experience with Scrum and other Agile processes. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

  • A desire to learn more about Data Engineering and AI/ML
