About the Team:
AlphaSense has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Commercial Counsel to join our legal team. Legal is a critical function in supporting the company’s fast-paced, high-growth environment and acts as a true business partner to all of our leaders across the organization. We work hand-in-hand with cross-functional teams to provide solutions to enable and empower the company to achieve substantial targets while managing risk and protecting our business.
About the Role:
This role can either be based in our New York, New York headquarters or remote in the USA, with a preference for the Eastern Time zone. Regardless of location, Eastern Time working hours are a minimum requirement.
The Senior Commercial Counsel is primarily responsible for leading the drafting, reviewing, and negotiating revenue-generating contracts with our customers. The Senior Commercial Counsel will partner with all levels and functions of the business, including Sales, Information Security, Product, and Content, among others, to help AlphaSense achieve its goals. This role is essential to our growth and will have an immediate impact in our dynamic, fast-paced culture.
What You’ll Do:
- Take ownership of drafting, reviewing, and negotiating the company’s commercial contracts supporting the sales organization.
- Help create and enhance playbooks to establish company parameters and scale the legal function as the company grows.
- Provide legal and strategic business advice to ensure agreements are consistent with playbooks, internal policies, and processes.
- Remain informed of the shifting legal landscape relating to applicable laws, regulations, and industry guidance that impact commercial agreements.
Who You Are:
- J.D. from a top law school and admitted to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial software and technology subscription agreements.
- Ability to manage a high volume of commercial contracts, including Master Services Agreements, SOWs, Order Forms, DPAs, and AI Addenda.
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to support difficult positions in a firm and patient manner and to drive deals to close by devising creative solutions that protect AlphaSense’s interests.
- Business-friendly and pragmatic mindset that maintains a commensurate balance of legal risk.
- Effective communicator and relationship builder who enjoys working directly with stakeholders on the front line of negotiations.
- A mix of law firm and in-house experience is preferred; prior experience at a technology company, with AI, data privacy, information security, intellectual property, or financial services is a plus.
For base compensation, we set standard ranges for all roles based on function and level benchmarked against similar stage growth companies and internal comparables. In order to be compliant with local legislation, as well as to provide greater transparency to candidates, we share salary ranges on all job postings regardless of desired hiring location. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience/expertise and may vary from the amounts listed below.
