SUGARED + BRONZED has redefined airbrush tanning with a proprietary solution and reintroduced an all-natural, ancient Egyptian method of hair removal called sugaring. Our commitment is to deliver exceptional services in vibrant, welcoming spaces that elevate your experience and brighten your day.

Want to automate the tedious parts of accounting and spend your time on the parts that actually use your expertise?

That's what we're building here.

Accounting has two halves. One takes real skill: knowing why the reconciliation won't tie, catching the lease clause everyone else skimmed, spotting the number that looks fine and isn't. That work is hard, it's learned, and it's the reason this role exists.

The other half is exporting the same report, rekeying the same figures, and chasing the same approvals every month. That half doesn't get better with experience. It just takes hours away from the first half.

We'd like to automate the second half so you can spend your time on the first.

SUGARED + BRONZED does sugaring and airbrush tanning, with studios across the country. We're growing quickly, our finance team is small, and no one here is going to tell you "that's just how we've always done it."

WHAT WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT

This isn't an aspiration we're describing. We're already well down this road: AI is used seriously across the business, and we've built genuine data infrastructure underneath it. You'd be joining a function that already has the plumbing in place, not one where you'd spend a year convincing people this is worth doing.

Worth knowing: our VP of Accounting also leads AI for the entire organization. The person running this department is the same person driving how the whole company uses this technology. Support for automating your work doesn't have to travel up three levels for approval. It's already your boss's other job.

You'd be starting from a strong place: the tools, the infrastructure, and the mandate all exist already. What we're missing is another person who wants to use them.

You don't need to have done this before. You need to want to. If your reaction to doing the same manual task for the third time is "there has to be a better way," you'll fit in well here.

You'll be encouraged to:

  • Automate your own recurring work instead of grinding through it
  • Bring us tools and workflows we haven't come across yet
  • Question a process for being slow, not just for being wrong
  • Hold the line on accuracy. Automation that's fast and wrong is worse than doing it by hand.

And you won't be figuring out the AI part alone. Bring us the idea and we'll help you build it, teach you the tools, and give you the time to get it right. Curiosity is what we're asking for. The skills we can work on together.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Our goal is to give a skilled accountant more room to be one, not to replace judgment with a script. Automation is only as good as the person who knows what the output is supposed to look like, which is exactly why we want someone experienced building it. You have to be able to do the work by hand before automating it is a good idea.

So this is a hands-on accounting job. There is a payroll to run every week, a close to land on time every month, reconciliations that have to tie, and a rent calendar that doesn't forgive a missed date. Multi-location and multi-entity means volume: a lot of transactions, a lot of accounts, and a lot of detail that has to be right the first time.

A meaningful amount of that work is manual today, and some of it will stay manual. Automation is what we layer on once the fundamentals are solid. It is not a substitute for them, and it isn't the job. The job is owning the numbers.

The core of this role is what you'd expect from a strong senior accountant anywhere: careful, well-documented, on-time work, with support behind every balance and an explanation ready for every variance.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Payroll. Weekly, hourly and salaried, across every location. Timecard and PTO review, adjustments, the payroll journal entry, and the reconciliation behind it.
  • Spend. Expense coordination through our spend management tools, including coding, receipt and approval follow-up, and month-end accruals.
  • The close. Monthly and quarterly reconciliations, journal entries in QuickBooks Online, and GL maintenance across departments. Bank and credit card reconciliations, prepaids, accruals, and the balance sheet support behind them.
  • Real estate finance. The rent calendar for every studio, plus lease obligation tracking and landlord charge review, so nothing slips and we don't pay something we don't owe.
  • Audit and period-end. Schedules, tie-outs, and support that stand up to someone else checking them. The work that keeps us clean and moving quickly.
  • Cross-functional work. You'll partner with Operations and Real Estate regularly. This isn't a role where you're heads-down in a spreadsheet by yourself.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 3 or more years of accounting experience, payroll and multi-location a plus
  • Solid full-cycle accounting fundamentals: accruals, prepaids, journal entries, and reconciliations you can build and defend
  • Real Excel / Google Sheets ability: formulas and structure, not just data entry
  • A high bar for accuracy, and the ability to hit recurring deadlines without being chased
  • Comfort with detail and volume. Some of this work is repetitive, and it still has to be right every time.
  • Genuine curiosity about automation. This one's a real requirement, not a filler bullet.
  • Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, preferred

BONUS BUT NOT REQUIRED

  • QuickBooks Online experience. It's what we run on, and we'll get you up to speed if you've worked in a comparable system.
  • Rippling experience. We use it, it's a plus, and we'll teach you if you haven't.
  • Any experience using AI tools, scripts, or automation in a finance context
  • Multi-entity or retail accounting background

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid vacation and holidays
  • Complimentary services and products (yes, the tanning and sugaring too)
  • A team small enough that your ideas about how to do this better actually get built
