Here at Hometap, we’re collaborative, passionate, and always ready to roll up our sleeves to create solutions that help people get more out of homeownership — and out of life. Our first product, a home equity investment, gives homeowners the opportunity to quickly access the equity they’ve built in their home to pay for what’s most important to them, from handling debt to finally making much-needed renovations, without taking on debt.

We work hard, and have some fun along the way, too. You don’t have to take our word for it: The Boston Globe and Forbes have recognized us as a great place to work, and we’ve been honored for our commitment to innovation in the fintech space by Inc., HousingWire, and more!

In case you need any more convincing, we also provide competitive compensation, healthcare coverage, generous PTO, a meaningful equity package, and a strong culture with plenty of opportunities for team-building and camaraderie.

Interested in joining us on our mission to make homeownership less stressful and more accessible? We’d love to talk.

Who you are:

As Senior Counsel at Hometap, you’ll collaborate with stakeholders across the company – including Product, Engineering, Sales, Operations, and Marketing – to solve complex legal problems in real time and enable the business to scale and grow. A strong candidate will have experience in consumer financial services, excellent judgment in balancing legal risks with business strategy, and a proven ability to advise teams in a fast-paced environment. You’ll thrive in this role if you’re an experienced financial services lawyer with a background in home finance, consumer regulatory issues, and a track record of providing actionable guidance in a cross-functional environment.

What you’ll do:

  • Partner with and support business teams by providing advice on a range of laws and regulations, including those governing consumer protection, financial products and services, and digital advertising
  • Support the development and launch of new products, services, and partnerships
  • Ensure compliance with relevant state and federal laws and regulations, and assist in interpreting new and existing legislation that may impact Hometap
  • Provide pragmatic day-to-day advice to minimize legal risks while advancing business interests and ensuring an excellent customer experience
  • Support the legal team on other key initiatives ranging from capital raises to regulatory engagements

What you bring:

  • J.D. degree, with 5+ years of relevant legal experience, with a minimum of 2 years in an in-house role
  • Experience with consumer lending products required, with a focus on serving as product and/or regulatory counsel. Mortgage lending experience is a major plus.
  • Strong understanding of financial services regulation, compliance requirements, and the overall consumer financial services ecosystem
  • Intellectual curiosity – you’re always looking to understand context and continuously improve
  • Fluency in translating legal advice into actionable guidance for innovative product and business teams
  • Ability to review, draft, and negotiate contracts at a fast pace with accuracy
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams while owning and driving projects from beginning to end
  • Leads with empathy in all internal and external communications
  • Exemplary personal and professional integrity and business ethics

Our team is what makes us great. The salary range for this role is $200,000 - $225,000, depending on your experience, skills, location, and other factors. You’ll also receive meaningful equity, so you can share in our growth and success. We offer generous medical, dental, and vision coverage, a work-from-home stipend, parental leave, and plenty of paid time off to recharge.

Hometap is on a mission to make homeownership less stressful and more accessible. Our home equity investment product provides homeowners with a fast, simple, and straightforward way to access the equity in their home without taking out a loan or having to sell. By investing alongside homeowners, Hometap offers debt-free cash in exchange for a share of their home’s future value — all without any monthly payments over the life of the investment. Through a combination of financial innovation and best-in-class customer service, Hometap enables people to get more from homeownership so they can get more from life.
