In this role, you will be a key partner to our HR and Recruiting teams, providing dedicated privacy counsel on a wide range of workforce and talent acquisition matters. You will report to the Director of Data Governance and Privacy in our Legal Department and work closely with colleagues across the legal and HR teams as our privacy program continues to grow.

Our highly respected legal team provides innovative legal solutions to help make NVIDIA the world leader in high performance computing. We help make possible the realistic simulation of human imagination in video games and films, and the remarkable simulation of human intelligence in deep learning, autonomous vehicles, and robotics. The work we do impacts the most consequential mega-trends in technology today. You will be asked to continuously learn and develop your legal skills, and you will be responsible for providing legal support on a wide variety of issues. We value partnership, teamwork, and creative thinking.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Advising the HR and Recruiting teams on privacy requirements applicable to the collection, use, and retention of employee and candidate personal data, including background check data, assessment results, and hiring records.

  • Reviewing and negotiating vendor contracts and data processing agreements (DPAs) with HR technology vendors, background screening providers, recruiting platforms, and other third-party processors handling workforce data.

  • Advising on cross-border employee and applicant data transfers, including transfer impact assessments and applicable safeguards under GDPR, PIPL, and other international frameworks.

  • Counseling on privacy considerations related to AI-assisted recruiting tools, applicant tracking systems, automated decision-making, and workforce analytics, including obligations under emerging algorithmic transparency and automated decision laws.

  • Supporting employee-facing privacy notices, data subject rights requests from employees and candidates, and related HR data governance policies.

  • Tracking legal developments in employment privacy, including U.S. state laws and international regulations affecting the HR and recruiting lifecycle, and translating those developments into practical guidance.

  • Growing into broader privacy and data governance responsibilities as the program evolves.

What we need to see:

  • J.D. degree with a record of strong academic performance.

  • 5+ years of privacy law experience, with meaningful exposure to employment privacy, HR data, or recruiting-related data issues, gained at a law firm, in-house, or both.

  • Working knowledge of privacy frameworks applicable to employment and recruiting, including GDPR (particularly HR data provisions), CCPA/CPRA, BIIPA, and other U.S. and international laws governing employee and applicant data.

  • A license to practice law in California required.

  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills, including writing, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple workstreams effectively.

  • A practical, business-minded approach to legal risk, with the ability to provide clear, actionable guidance.

Ways to stand out from the crowd:

  • Direct experience advising HR, People Operations, or Recruiting teams on privacy compliance in a global technology company or a practice group focused on employment or privacy law.

  • Familiarity with AI-driven recruiting tools and the emerging legal landscape around automated employment decision-making.

  • You’ll have a CIPP/US, CIPP/E, or similar privacy certification.

  • Experience working cross-functionally with HR, Legal, and IT teams to develop practical, scalable data governance processes.

  • Bring a passion for continuous learning and an enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.
