Senior Counsel, Privacy, AI & Data Responsibility
Overview:
Mastercard is committed to balancing innovation with legal compliance and has embedded Privacy, AI and Data Responsibility into the core of its business strategy. As part of this commitment, Mastercard has built a world-class AI Legal Center of Excellence and is expanding its talent globally.
The Senior Counsel - Privacy, AI & Data Responsibility will play a pivotal role in shaping Mastercard's approach to responsible AI driving privacy and AI regulatory aspects as well as enabling projects emerging from the AI and Data Office. This role will report to the Senior Managing Counsel, Privacy, AI & Data Responsibility and will be a member of the AI Legal Center of Excellence and the Global Privacy, AI & Data Responsibility (PAIR) team.
Role:• Partner with the AI and Data Office to enable AI efforts, including big bets from a privacy and AI legal perspective.• Work with business stakeholders to implement legal, technical, operational and administrative requirements for Mastercard's AI solutions and uses stemming from evolving AI regulations globally.• Provide AI legal and privacy expertise to key initiatives furthering Mastercard AI Governance.• Develop and review documentation on Mastercard's Responsible AI.• Monitor regulatory guidance and enforcement on AI laws to assess evolving impact on Mastercard's AI Compliance Program.• Collaborate with Public Policy and Government Affairs on engagement efforts on evolving AI regulatory and policy initiatives.
All About You• Law degree required. Membership to a Bar (if permitted by law). Any additional qualifications (e.g. Master of Laws degree, AI or privacy certifications) considered an asset• Solid expertise in AI legal frameworks and strong understanding of global data protection laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA)• Track record dealing with Artificial Intelligence projects, products or solutions.• Good understanding of AI technologies, incl. Generative and Agentic AI.• Ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical legal solutions.• Ability to collaborate across functions and influence stakeholders. Exceptional interpersonal skills with proven experience in relationship building and partnering.• Superior time management, planning, and organizational skills.• Strong analytic capabilities, and written and oral communication skills.• Creativity and "can-do" attitude is a must.

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Mastercard benefits for full time (and certain part time) employees generally include: insurance (including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, disability, life insurance); flexible spending account and health savings account; paid leaves (including 16 weeks of new parent leave and up to 20 days of bereavement leave); 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time, 25 days of vacation time and 5 personal days, pro-rated based on date of hire; 10 annual paid U.S. observed holidays; 401k with a best-in-class company match; deferred compensation for eligible roles; fitness reimbursement or on-site fitness facilities; eligibility for tuition reimbursement; and many more. Mastercard benefits for interns generally include: 56 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time; jury duty leave; and on-site fitness facilities in some locations.

Arlington, Virginia: $204,000 - $325,000 USD
