Want to revolutionize healthcare?

To create a healthcare system with effective health information exchange, healthcare organizations need more than a series of connections between each other. They need assurance that the data being exchanged is meaningful and to know it will be delivered when and where they need it.

Founded in 2014, Health Gorilla provides access to actionable patient data, supporting a diverse set of clinical use cases and improving outcomes across the country. We work with some of the leading companies in health IT, value-based care, and digital health, including Virta Health, The Garage, Medhost, and many others. Health Gorilla is one of the five original organizations approved as a Qualified Health Information Network (QHIN) and the only QHIN to also be designated as a Qualified Health Information Organization (QHIO).

Health Gorilla is looking for a savvy Senior Data Engineer to join our team. If you've ever wanted to get in on the ground floor, then this is the role for you. As a Data Engineer, this role will require you to be responsible for every step of the data flow, where you will architect, build and manage databases, data pipelines, and data warehouses. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record of creating and maintaining an analytics infrastructure and pipeline that enables almost every other data function at the company. You while also keeping an eye out for trends or inconsistencies that will impact business goals. This is a high-impact role that combines deep technical expertise with strategic thinking — ideal for someone who can both design and deliver enterprise-grade data infrastructure and mentor others along the way.

What you will do at Health Gorilla:

  • Architect and maintain scalable, reliable data pipelines to support analytics and operational workloads.
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements
  • Partner with data scientists, analysts, and engineering teams to ensure data accessibility, consistency, and quality across the organization.
  • Implement data governance, security, and compliance best practices aligned with healthcare and interoperability standards.
  • Drive automation and observability in data workflows, ensuring resilience, transparency, and cost efficiency.
  • Evaluate and introduce new technologies, frameworks, and tools to enhance data capabilities.
  • Collaborate with leadership to shape the data strategy roadmap, ensuring scalability for the company’s growth.

What you bring to the role:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience building and scaling data pipelines, warehouses, and analytics environments.
  • Proven expertise with AWS data services — including EMR, Redshift, Glue, S3, Athena, and Lambda.
  • Experience with Databricks and Spark, with demonstrated ability to migrate or integrate from these systems to AWS-native solutions.
  • Strong command of SQL, Python, and at least one compiled language (e.g., Java or Scala).
  • Deep understanding of ETL/ELT frameworks, data modeling, and data lake architectures.
  • Hands-on experience implementing data quality frameworks, CI/CD for data pipelines, and infrastructure as code.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA-compliant data handling, FHIR, or other healthcare interoperability standards is a strong plus.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a track record of collaborating across functions and influencing technical direction.

What You Will Love About Us!

  • Health Gorilla takes a market-based approach to pay, and the base salary range for this role is $162,400 to $181,000, based on experience. Please note that ranges may be modified at any time, and there is no guarantee offers will be at the top of a posted range.
