Senior Data Engineer
About Peerspace
Peerspace is the leading and category defining online marketplace for venue rentals for meetings, productions, and events. We open doors to the most inspiring spaces around the world, from lofts and mansions to storefronts and studios. Over $500M has been transacted through the platform, and our investors include GV (Google Ventures) and Foundation Capital.
We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer who approaches data with the mindset of a Software Engineer. You won't just be moving data; you will be building the robust infrastructure and services that power our product.
In this role, you will take ownership of decomposing and modernizing our legacy business data pipelines. You will be a key architect in building data services that expose critical information directly within our product, as well as for internal analytics. We need a builder who values clean code, testability, and scalability alongside data quality.
What you will do:
* Modernize & Decompose: Take the lead on breaking down large, monolithic data initiatives into manageable, modern services and pipelines that allow us to ship fast and scale efficiently.
* Architecture & Design: Drive the strategy for new data storage patterns and the services required to serve data back to the core product as well as for internal analytics consumption.
* Engineering Excellence: Apply software engineering best practices—such as CI/CD, unit testing, and version control—to our data ecosystem.
* End-to-End Data Ownership: Act with a strong ownership mindset, digging into the "why" and "how" to find answers in a startup-style environment.
* Collaborate & Mentor: We’re a small and nimble team. You will be a primary collaborator across the company, from Product and Engineering to Marketing and Finance, serving as a partner and mentor to bring the whole team along in building production-grade systems.
What we are looking for:
* Software-Driven Data Engineering: You have a deep understanding of software design patterns and a strong foundation in data engineering basics. You are opinionated on best practices regarding data orchestration and storage, and you know how to apply engineering rigor (modularity, testing, and maintainability) to data workflows.
* Strategic Pragmatism: You have a track record of balancing short-term business requirements with long-term technical health. You know when to build for the future and when a tactical solution is the right call for the moment.
* Python & SQL Mastery: You are highly proficient in Python and can write complex, performant SQL.
* Architectural Grit: You have a track record of breaking down high-level business requirements into technical roadmaps and executing them.
* Collaborative Ownership: You are a proactive communicator who takes pride in owning a problem from discovery to resolution. You enjoy digging in yourself to find answers and partnering with others to implement the right solution.
* The "Startup" Spirit: You are comfortable with ambiguity. You don’t wait for a manual; you enjoy digging into the code to figure out how things work.
Bonus Points:
* Experience or a strong interest in deploying ML pipelines and working with LLM tooling.
* Experience with dbt.
* Experience with real-time or near real-time data processing (streaming).
Our Tech Stack:
Knowing these specific tools is not a requirement for application, but we like to give you a heads-up on what you would be working with daily: Google Cloud Platform (GCP), BigQuery, Airflow, dbt, Metaplane, Segment, Postgres, Tableau
