Job Description:

About the Role

At Remitly, we are on a mission to transform lives by providing trusted financial services that transcend borders. We serve millions of customers sending billions of dollars each year across 170+ countries, and our work impacts communities on a truly global scale.

As a Senior Data Scientist at Remitly, you will work at the center of data-driven decision-making across product and business domains. Data Scientists work hand-in-hand with Machine Learning Engineers and partner closely with Product, Analytics, and Engineering to shape AI/ML products through rigorous analytics, experimentation, and modeling. We work horizontally across domains at Remitly, including Global Money Movement, Treasury, Identity & Trust, Promotions, Referrals, and more.

We are looking for an experienced Data Scientist who can independently own complex analytical and modeling problems, apply strong causal reasoning, and translate ambiguous business questions into clear, high-impact insights and recommendations.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of data science work, from problem formulation and exploratory data analysis to modeling, evaluation, and communication of results.

  • Partner with Machine Learning Engineers to support production models through offline analysis, feature & label recommendations, evaluation strategy, and monitoring insights.

  • Estimate opportunity size for AI initiatives to help prioritize work based on expected business impact.

  • Apply causal inference techniques, including quasi-experimental methods, to evaluate real world impact when randomized experiments are not feasible.

  • Ensure and uplevel quality standards for experiment design, diagnosis, and analysis.

  • Translate complex analytical and modeling outcomes into clear narratives that influence product and business decisions.

  • Develop and maintain robust analytical and modeling workflows that enable reproducible experimentation and reliable evaluation of impact.

  • Mentor junior Data Scientists, contribute to design and analysis reviews, and uphold a high bar for analytical quality and scientific rigor.

What You Bring

  • Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 4+ years of industry experience in data science, applied statistics, or a related field.

  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Python, with the ability to write clean, reproducible, and well-tested data science code.

  • Expertise in experimentation and statistical analysis, including metric selection, bias diagnosis, and result interpretation.

  • Strong analytical intuition and experience working with messy real-world data to uncover meaningful insights.

  • Experience partnering cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and Machine Learning teams to drive impact.

  • Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non technical audiences, explaining tradeoffs, uncertainty, and assumptions.

  • Experience with one or more of causal inference, forecasting, or numerical optimization is strongly preferred.

Remitly is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
