Why Socure?

Socure is building the identity trust infrastructure for the digital economy — verifying 100% of good identities in real time and stopping fraud before it starts. The mission is big, the problems are complex, and the impact is felt by businesses, governments, and millions of people every day.

We hire people who want that level of responsibility. People who move fast, think critically, act like owners, and care deeply about solving customer problems with precision. If you want predictability or narrow scope, this won’t be your place. If you want to help build the future of identity with a team that holds a high bar for itself — keep reading.

About the Role

Socure’s Document Verification (DocV) product plays a critical role in establishing trust in digital transactions by ensuring that identity documents are authentic and accurate . We are seeking an exceptional Senior Engineering Manager to lead our DocV product engineering team in driving this mission forward. As the leader of this team, you will have a pivotal impact on the business guiding technical direction, shaping product strategy, and delivering innovative solutions – all while fostering the growth of a high-performing engineering group . This role calls for an empathetic, hands-on leader with a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for mentoring engineers to reach their full potential .

What you'll do:
  • Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of 7–10 engineers (backend, frontend, and mobile), cultivating a collaborative, high-performance culture and ensuring clear accountability and growth for each team member .

  • Technical Direction & Architecture: Drive the technical strategy and architectural decisions for the DocV product, ensuring solutions are built with modern technologies, scalable cloud infrastructure, and best practices in AI/ML and software design . Provide technical guidance across the stack (from backend services and machine learning models to client-side mobile/web components) to guarantee robustness and scalability.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with cross-functional teams – including Product Management, Data Science/Machine Learning, Infrastructure, Security, and other engineering groups – to conceptualize and deliver new features and improvements in an agile environment . Facilitate effective communication and alignment between the DocV engineering team and stakeholders across the company.

  • Product Roadmap & Execution: Collaborate with product and engineering leaders to define the Document Verification roadmap that aligns with business goals, and drive the execution of that roadmap. Take ownership of delivering key results and high-impact outcomes on schedule, ensuring that team efforts meet product objectives and business KPIs .

  • Mentorship and Talent Development: Mentor and coach junior and senior engineers, providing regular feedback and professional development opportunities. Foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and excellence, helping team members advance their skills and careers .

  • Quality, Performance & Compliance: Set and uphold high standards for code quality, security, and performance. Oversee code reviews and enforcement of engineering best practices (CI/CD, testing, documentation) to ensure that our product is reliable, fast, and secure. Work with compliance and security teams to ensure DocV features meet data privacy and regulatory requirements.

  • Innovation and Improvement: Encourage the team to explore new technologies and approaches (especially in AI, machine learning, and computer vision) to continuously improve the Document Verification product. Champion a mindset of ownership and proactive improvement, keeping Socure at the forefront of the industry.

What you bring:
  • Experience: 8+ years of software development experience building and delivering complex, user-friendly applications . This should include at least 3+ years in a technical leadership role (Tech Lead or Engineering Manager) managing engineering teams (ideally teams of similar size, e.g. 5–10 engineers) and driving projects to completion.

  • Full-Stack Leadership: Proven experience leading full-stack engineering teams spanning backend services, data/ML pipelines, web frontends, and mobile applications . You have a track record of delivering products that include backend APIs, cloud-based services, and client-side components such as web interfaces or mobile SDKs.

  • Technical Skills: Strong hands-on background in backend development (e.g. building scalable APIs and microservices), including working with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP or similar) to support machine learning-driven applications . Proficiency in modern client-side technologies, including JavaScript/TypeScript and frameworks like React, as well as native mobile development (Swift for iOS and Kotlin for Android, or cross-platform frameworks like React Native) .

  • Project Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale projects end-to-end, coordinating across multidisciplinary teams such as Data Science/ML, DevOps/Infrastructure, Security, and Product . You can break down complex initiatives into executable plans and consistently deliver results in a fast-paced, agile environment.

  • Strategic Influence & Communication: Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to articulate complex engineering concepts in simple terms for various audiences. Proven ability to influence and align teams on architecture and technical decisions, driving consensus and guiding the team through change .

  • Problem Solving & Adaptability: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Comfortable navigating ambiguity and making data-informed decisions. You stay updated on emerging technologies (especially in AI/ML and security) and can adapt strategies to evolving business needs.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Domain Expertise: Experience in identity verification, document verification, fraud detection, or related FinTech/security domains is a strong plus . Familiarity with the challenges of verifying government IDs, selfies, or working with KYC/AML compliance will help you accelerate impact in this role.

  • Advanced AI/ML & Computer Vision: Hands-on experience with computer vision and machine learning models – from development to deployment – particularly in the context of image processing or ID verification. Experience integrating ML models into production services or mobile applications is highly valued .

  • Cloud & DevOps Ecosystem: Deep knowledge of cloud platforms and tools. For example, expertise with AWS services, containerization and orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes), and observability stacks (logging/monitoring with tools like Datadog). Experience with data platforms (e.g., Databricks or similar) for large-scale data processing is a plus .

  • Security & Compliance: Understanding of security best practices and experience building products in regulated environments. Familiarity with data protection and privacy standards (e.g., SOC 2, FedRAMP, GDPR) or industry regulations related to Document and identity verification is beneficial.

  • Performance Tuning: Proven ability to optimize application and system performance . Knowledge of techniques for improving latency, throughput, and scalability (such as performance profiling, load testing, and capacity planning) will help ensure our DocV product performs at an industry-leading level.

  • Leadership Impact: A strong leadership track record with the ability to inspire and motivate engineering teams . You thrive in mentoring high-caliber talent and creating an environment where innovation, ownership, and teamwork are rewarded.
