At Turion Space, we’re building the software systems that help operators plan, control, and understand complex space missions. As a Senior Front-End Software Engineer, you will work across a wide range of products and user experiences, from customer-facing portals to internal admin and tooling systems to mission control interfaces and other operational software. This is not a role where you get boxed into maintaining a single product surface. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute across multiple systems, solve diverse product challenges, and build software used by stakeholders ranging from Satellite Operators and Mission Planners to GNC engineers, AI researchers, and Flight Software teams.
You will work closely with our Design Team to turn high-fidelity Figma concepts into polished, scalable production code, while also helping shape how frontend engineering is practiced across Turion. This is a hands-on senior role for someone who cares deeply about user experience, sound technical decisions, and building frontend systems that are reliable under real operational demands.
Our frontend stack is primarily Vite, React, and TypeScript, with interfaces built on top of REST APIs, WebSockets, and gRPC.
Key Responsibilities
Design and build high-quality frontend experiences across Turion’s product surfaces, including customer portals, internal tools, mission control interfaces, and other operational systems.
Contribute to design and implementation decisions for frontend applications and shared platform capabilities.
Partner closely with the Design Team to translate high-fidelity wireframes and prototypes from Figma into robust, maintainable production code.
Help define and strengthen the working relationship between Design and Engineering, improving handoff quality, iteration speed, and execution consistency.
Contribute to and help maintain a shared component library and design system used across multiple applications.
Establish and reinforce frontend conventions, best practices, and engineering standards around maintainability, testing, performance, accessibility, and usability.
Build interfaces that consume and present data from REST APIs, WebSockets, and gRPC-backed services in clear, reliable ways.
Work directly with stakeholders across the company, including Satellite Operators, Mission Planners, GNC engineers, AI researchers, and Flight Software teams, to identify pain points and refine solutions through fast feedback loops.
Champion user experience in engineering decisions, ensuring implementations are intuitive, performant, and aligned with product goals.
Mentor interns and junior-to-mid-level engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and day-to-day technical leadership.
Support production systems responsibly, including participation in on-call rotations for mission-critical operations when needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
5+ years of software development experience, with a track record of leading projects or providing technical leadership on teams.
Deep expertise in frontend development and demonstrated ability to design, build, secure, test, and support complex production systems.
Experience integrating with secure backend services and implementing frontend patterns for authentication, authorization, session handling, and safe API consumption.
Experience supporting a production frontend system in a fast-paced environment.
Strong experience building modern web applications with maintainable architecture and strong engineering fundamentals.
History of mentoring and coaching interns and junior engineers.
Ability to operate effectively in a highly cross-functional environment with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to participate in on-call support for mission-critical operations.
Genuine curiosity, strong ownership, and a willingness to learn quickly and try new approaches when needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Expertise with TypeScript and React.
Experience with Vite or similar modern frontend build tooling.
Expertise working with RESTful APIs in production environments.
Experience with WebSockets and gRPC.
Experience designing, implementing, and supporting a shared component library or design system.
Experience collaborating closely with Product Design or UX teams and shipping from high-fidelity Figma mocks.
Experience with frontend rendering or visualization technologies such as three.js, Konva, canvas, or similar tools.
Experience with WebAssembly.
Experience building highly interactive, data-dense, or operationally critical user interfaces.
Prior work in aerospace, defense, robotics, industrial software, or other complex systems environments.
