Vannevar is a defense technology company building AI to deter our adversaries. In the 21st century, conflict moves at algorithmic speed and foresight equals firepower. Our agentic AI is purpose-built to compete with China—from cross-Strait conflict to gray zone coercion. Trained on the most mission-relevant datasets in defense, our technology models adversary behavior, simulates campaigns, and recommends the best course of action to decision makers. Our AI systems are some of the most trusted in the industry and actively used on the front lines of the Indo-Pacific to keep the peace and save lives.

Exceptional technology starts with exceptional people. Vannevar is a small agile team combining world-class engineers with veteran strategists who bring deep expertise in defense and tradecraft. We’re building a company defined by mission impact, user empathy, and disciplined growth. In just three years, we grew from $3M to $80M in ARR, achieved early profitability, and reached unicorn status—proving that disruption doesn’t require an ego, and staying power doesn’t mean standing still.

Senior Full Stack Engineer, Geospatial

The Geospatial engineering team is building a cutting-edge platform for unclassified geospatial analytical workflows in support of strategic competition efforts. We’re looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer to help build and deliver mission-critical capabilities into the hands of those who serve our nation.

You’ll be part of a cross-functional team that includes software engineers and officers from all branches of the military. We also do something common in Silicon Valley tech companies but radical in the defense space: we develop and test products side-by-side with our users, including on US military bases and remote locations abroad. Our engineering culture is about empathizing with users and building software products that deliver maximum mission impact.

What you’ll do

  • Build efficient and reusable front-end systems that drive complex geospatial applications in environments with performance and resource constraints
  • Implement new geospatial algorithms, backend systems, and user interfaces
  • Collaborate with designers, engineers, and our mission team to deliver compelling user-facing products
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to peers
  • Travel up to 20% of time to meet with mission owners and deliver capabilities

Qualifications

  • 5+ years as a Full Stack Developer or similar role
  • Familiarity with relational databases (like Postgres), caching technologies (like Redis), object stores (like S3), and distributed search systems (like ElasticSearch)
  • Experience with React and JavaScript Development
  • Experience building and owning features end-to-end
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • You must be a US resident or citizen

Qualifications (Nice to Haves)

  • Experience building geospatial products
  • 5+ years of experience implementing geospatial algorithms
  • 5+ years of experience building with React and JavaScript

What we offer

The salary range for this position is $150,000 - $210,000 + equity + 401K match. Within the range, individual pay is determined by experience, relevant education, and/or training.

We’re proud to offer competitive benefits that support our employees. Some key highlights of our benefits package include:
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 100% remote first culture. You can work from anywhere in the US and all full time employees have WeWork access
  • Unlimited PTO including competitive vacation and holiday schedules
  • Lifestyle stipends - Monthly mental health, wellness & fitness stipend, in-home office setup stipend and family planning assistance
  • Salary top-up during military reserve duty
  • Fully paid parental leave
  • Child and pet care reimbursement during travel
