Job Description

The Opportunity: 
Mattel, Inc. is seeking an experienced and self-motivated Sr. Graphics Designer to join the Vehicle Tracks, Playsets and Licensed Entertainment product design team.  Our group is focused on creating new, exciting vehicle based-toys from Hot Wheels including Die-Cast vehicles, track-sets, playsets, and accessories.  

Our design team is passionate about our target consumer, kids ages 3-5 (and parents), staying on top of trends and competitor products, and ideally is into the automotive world (but not mandatory), all translating into successful Hot Wheels product.  This also involves creating and effectively communicating graphic concepts in 2D and/or digital format to our team of Design, Marketing and Management.  The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of graphic illustration design, character design and possess excellent sketch skills with proven visual design experience in the latest graphics software and applications.    
 

What Your Impact Will Be: 

 

  • Actively generate new graphics illustration and concepts to enhance Hot Wheels Die-Cast vehicles, Tracksets, Playsets and accessories
  • Character design and illustration on Hot Wheels Licensed Entertainment properties
  • Help graphically design and develop product lines for Tracks and Playsets toys and/or advertised lines or segments of product
  • Builds alignment and partnerships between members throughout the graphics design process
  • Partner with cross functional teams including Development, Design, Engineering, Packaging and Cost Engineering to ensure product integrity and marketing objectives
  • Daily communication with our Mattel Asia design and development partners alongside weekly video conferences
  • Successfully present and communicate their concepts to the design, marketing and Management and other creative departments
  • Manage the early phases of graphics design and development with other disciplines within the company

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For: 

  • 3 to 5 years of graphic design experience
  • Skilled in sketching and illustration
  • Ability to prove out visual concepts through sketches, illustrations
  • Must be proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and 2D computer programs
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to lead and be led, take input, direction and strategically apply it back into design solutions
  • Basic understanding of Adobe Creative Suite
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD (Alias, Rhino 3D is a plus)
  • Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment
  • Ability to project manage
  • Portfolio demonstrating strong design excellence and superior graphic problem solving
  • Personal Attributes Required: Creative, Positive, Self-Motivated, Passionate about design, Efficient, Proactive, Organized, Professional Maturity.
  • Ideal candidate will exhibit interest and knowledge of the current trends. Understanding of general toy industry and automotive industry is a plus.

The annual base salary range for this position is between $76,800.00 and $110,000.00.
**This range is indicative of projected hiring range, however annual base salary will be determined based on a candidate’s work location, skills and experience. Mattel offers competitive total pay programs, comprehensive benefits, and resources to help empower a culture where every employee can reach their full potential.
