Mudflap serves the $800B trucking industry, the backbone of the U.S. economy. Our market-leading payment products help truckers save thousands of dollars on fuel (their #1 business expense), while providing our fuel stop partners with access to new, hard-to-reach customers. We’re a fast-growing marketplace business looking for a new customer-obsessed teammate to join us on this exciting journey.

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will design, build, and operate the cloud infrastructure that powers our AWS-hosted SaaS platform. You’ll own the reliability, scalability, security, and efficiency of our environments—enabling rapid, safe delivery of new features while maintaining the high level of trust our customers expect.

You will develop and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines, manage infrastructure-as-code deployments, and ensure consistent, repeatable provisioning across environments. You’ll monitor system performance, tune resources for cost and efficiency, and respond to production incidents with a blameless, problem-solving mindset.

As part of the engineering team you will collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, data scientists, and other cross functional team members to implement best practices around observability, reliability, and compliance requirements. You’ll propose architectural improvements, and drive initiatives that enhance system resilience and developer productivity.

Ultimately, you will serve as both a guardian of platform stability and a force multiplier for the engineering organization—building tools, automation, and processes that allow the company to scale confidently and securely.

Work Location:

We value in-person connection and have offices in both Palo Alto and Austin. While we prefer candidates located in these hubs for occasional meetings and team collaboration, we are open to remote team members who can travel periodically if needed.

To support our team, we offer:

  • Commuter benefits to ease your travel

  • Lunches and snacks to keep you fueled

  • A collaborative, high-growth environment where you’ll work closely with talented teammates across the company

Expectations (In this role, you will):

  • Own and operate Mudflap’s AWS + Cloudflare infrastructure, ensuring reliability, security, and cost efficiency while supporting scalable, predictable deployments.

  • Manage and evolve our Infrastructure-as-Code and CI/CD systems (Terraform, ECS, CircleCI) to improve automation, environment consistency, and developer velocity.

  • Maintain and enhance observability through Prometheus, Grafana, and CloudWatch, delivering actionable dashboards, alerts, and SLO/SLA metrics.

  • Lead operational readiness and incident response, including capacity planning, system maintenance, structured RCA, and reliability improvements.

  • Drive security and compliance initiatives, including IAM hardening, secrets management, encryption, least-privilege access, and SOC 2 technical controls and documentation.

  • Build tools, automation, and documentation that reduce manual work, increase system consistency, and support a scalable DevOps function.

Experience (What we look for):

  • 5+ years of DevOps/SRE experience (2+ years with production AWS), with strong expertise in EC2, ECS, RDS/Aurora, VPC, S3, IAM, and CloudWatch.

  • Deep experience with Terraform and IaC, plus strong CI/CD skills (CircleCI preferred) and modern deployment patterns (blue/green, canary, feature flags).

  • Strong containerization, automation, and scripting abilities (Docker, ECS, Ruby/Python/Go/Bash).

  • Hands-on observability and Linux systems engineering experience, including performance tuning, monitoring, logging, and secure configuration.

  • Security and compliance background, ideally in fintech or regulated environments (SOC 2, PCI, ISO 27001), with an understanding of IAM, encryption, secrets mgmt, and secure architecture.

  • Proven incident leadership, collaboration skills, and a track record of reducing operational toil through automation.

Perks and Benefits (What we offer):

  • Competitive salary and equity in a high-growth startup

  • Multiple health benefit options

  • Responsible Time Off

  • 401(k) matching

  • Opportunities and support for major career growth

  • Annual Company offsite event (Mudfest!)

The salary range for this role is $190,000-$220,000. This information reflects a base salary range for this position based on current market data, which may be subject to change as new market data becomes available. The candidate's skills, experience, and other relevant factors will determine the exact compensation.

Company Overview (Who we are):
