Job Summary & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

- Legal Counsel and Compliance: Provide timely, comprehensive legal counsel and guidance on labor and employment issues, particularly regarding California employment law compliance.

- Policy and Procedure Oversight: Advise on and assist in the drafting, revising, and reviewing of HR policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws.

- Risk Management: Keep senior management informed of significant labor and employment decisions, new legislation, and regulatory changes affecting the company’s operations and policies.

- Training and Development: Provide training to the Human Resources team and business leaders on employment laws, including ADA, Title VII, FMLA, workplace safety, and workers’ compensation.

- Research and Investigation: Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to develop informed guidance on employment-related topics, including working conditions and safety requirements. Handle internal investigations, respond to employment-related claims, demand letters, and administrative complaints.

- Litigation Management: Assist in the management of various litigation and dispute resolution matters; coordinate with external legal counsel as needed.

- Legal Strategy Development: Support the broader legal team in formulating strategies to align legal approaches with business objectives.

- Strategic Business Support: Develop a deep understanding of the company's business, industry trends, and competitive landscape.  Provide legal support to various business initiatives on an as-needed basis.

Preferred Qualifications

- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited, top-tier law school.

- Licensed and in good standing to practice law.

- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

- Minimum of 5 years of corporate legal experience, preferably in a large law firm or corporate legal department.

- Strong knowledge of California employment law, including experience managing wage and hour, class action/PAGA and OSHA matters.
