Why this role is special
B2B customer support is undergoing a seismic shift. AI is transforming the way companies engage with customers, shifting support from a siloed function to a company-wide effort across Slack, Discord, and in-product experiences.
Plain is leading the charge in building this new world and the Senior Manager, Experiential Marketing owns how Plain shows up to the world, through partners, events, and community experiences.
Along with Susana (Head of Community), Sales, GTM Engineer (Hiring), and myself, you’ll build unforgettable in-person and virtual experiences to generate and accelerate pipeline for the business.
While this role has many facets of traditional field marketing, you’ll have the opportunity to identify the highest leverage opportunities, not be cornered into large trade shows and predefined playbooks.
What you'll do
- Own our in person strategy for attracting new customers and helping expand existing customers. This means you'll be setting up events, identifying tradeshows for us to attend, working to identify the right people to invite, and more.
- Build the Modern Stack Alliance by creating co-marketing motions like joint content, shared audiences, and events with leading companies like PostHog, Linear, Attio, Vercel, and Slack.
- Create high-signal experiences like intimate dinners, roundtables, and creative pop ups in SF, NYC, and London. Run customer AMAs, showcases, and video testimonials.
- Accelerate deals through the funnel with sales by creating bespoke experiences to drive trust and credibility with our future customers.
- Amplify community reach by scaling Field Notes, our Customer Advisory Board, and presence at industry events.
This is a great fit if you…
- Have 3-5+ years of a mix of partnerships, demand generation, field marketing, or community at dev tool or technical B2B SaaS companies.
- Have experience planning events that deliver a great experience
- Have “host” energy where you sweat the details like lighting, music, conversation flow, and registration targets.
- You can operate with autonomy and don’t require consensus and permissions. You see an opportunity, you move.
- You’re comfortable being measured on influenced pipeline.
- You’re technically curious and love new tools. You don’t code, but have tinkered with and enjoy using tools like VEED, Claude Code, and Lovable.
This won't be the right role if you…
- Need extensive historical data and a playbook to make decisions. We have exciting industry traction and channel performance, but we’re very much in the early stages of learning and trying new things.
- Need a large team or agency support to execute. You’ll have a budget and supportive team, but you’re the operator.
- Aren’t interested in working in person or traveling — this role is based in SF, and we work together in the office at least 3 days a week. This role is also expected to be on the road up to 2 times per month.
