Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager - Firmware Engineering to lead our San Jose-based firmware team responsible for the development and delivery of firmware solutions for the FlashTec product line. This leadership role is ideal for a candidate with a strong technical background in firmware or software development combined with proven people management experience in high-performance engineering environments.

The successful candidate will drive firmware development strategy, execution, team growth, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver reliable, high-quality storage solutions. This position requires a balance of technical expertise, operational leadership, and the ability to foster an innovative and collaborative engineering culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the firmware engineering team responsible for the FlashTec product line
  • Drive end-to-end firmware development activities including architecture, design, implementation, integration, validation, and release
  • Establish project priorities, schedules, and resource plans to meet product development milestones
  • Collaborate closely with hardware, ASIC, validation, systems, product management, and customer engineering teams
  • Guide the team in adopting and improving agile firmware development methodologies and best practices
  • Mentor and develop engineering managers and individual contributors, supporting career growth and technical excellence
  • Monitor project execution, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful delivery
  • Support debugging and resolution of complex firmware and system-level issues
  • Contribute to long-term technology planning and roadmap development for storage firmware solutions
  • Foster a culture focused on innovation, accountability, quality, and continuous improvement

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 12+ years of relevant experience with 7+ years of experience managing firmware or software engineering teams
  • Strong technical background in embedded firmware or low-level software development
  • Experience with agile firmware or software development methodologies
  • Hands-on knowledge of PCIe and NVMe technologies
  • Experience developing or managing SSD firmware projects
  • Proven track record delivering complex products in fast-paced development environments
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Strong problem-solving and project management capabilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on enterprise storage products or data center technologies
  • Familiarity with performance optimization, reliability features, and firmware validation processes
  • Experience scaling engineering teams and leading geographically distributed teams
  • Knowledge of storage protocols, NAND technologies, and embedded systems architecture

The annual base salary range for this position, which could be performed in the US, is $91,000 - $247,000.*

*Range is dependent on numerous factors including job location, skills and experience.
