Senior Manager, New Business Development & Strategic Innovation

The ideal candidate is an entrepreneurial self-starter who combines exceptional analytical capabilities with a strong bias toward action. They are highly organized, energized by solving difficult business problems, comfortable operating independently, and capable of balancing strategic thinking with executional excellence. This individual will demonstrate sound business judgment, strong executive presence, and the ability to build alignment across stakeholders while maintaining momentum across multiple priorities.

Position Summary

The Senior Manager, New Business Development & Strategic Innovation is a critical member of the Life Sciences Innovation and Trade Strategy team, responsible for identifying, evaluating, and advancing new growth opportunities that leverage CVS Health's unique assets, capabilities, and enterprise scale.
 

This highly visible role partners closely with the Lead Director to assess emerging market trends, evaluate strategic opportunities, develop business cases, and support the incubation and launch of innovative partnerships, products, services, and business models. The Senior Manager will work across a broad range of healthcare and life sciences topics, collaborating with senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to translate insights and opportunities into actionable growth strategies.

To support enterprise growth objectives, the team continuously monitors healthcare trends, evaluates where CVS Health is uniquely positioned to win, develops business cases for priority opportunities, and advances high-impact initiatives from concept through execution. Success in this role requires strong strategic thinking, business and financial acumen, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to drive progress in complex and ambiguous environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate, and develop new business opportunities that support CVS Health's long-term growth strategy.
  • Monitor healthcare, life sciences, and adjacent market trends to identify emerging opportunities, risks, and strategic implications.
  • Develop strategic recommendations, financial analyses, business cases, and executive-level presentations that inform enterprise decision-making.
  • Partner with internal business leaders and cross-functional teams to evaluate, design, and advance innovative growth initiatives.
  • Support the incubation, piloting, and launch of new products, services, partnerships, and business models.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the enterprise and effectively influence without direct authority.
  • Collaborate with external organizations and strategic partners to evaluate partnership opportunities and deliver business value.
  • Drive multiple complex workstreams simultaneously, maintaining high standards for quality, organization, and execution.
  • Translate complex and often ambiguous business challenges into structured analyses, actionable insights, and practical recommendations.
  • Contribute to a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and entrepreneurial thinking across the organization.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in strategy, business development, corporate development, innovation, consulting, product strategy, or related functions within healthcare, life sciences, health technology, managed care, or other complex regulated industries.
  • Demonstrated experience developing analyses, business cases, strategic recommendations, and executive-level presentations that drive decision-making.
  • Strong business and financial acumen with the ability to evaluate market opportunities, competitive dynamics, and potential investments.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience influencing cross-functional stakeholders and driving progress across matrixed organizations.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain execution discipline across multiple workstreams.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a high degree of ownership, initiative, and accountability.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments and translate uncertainty into action.
  • Intellectual curiosity, learning agility, and a passion for identifying new opportunities and solving complex business challenges.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience identifying, evaluating, incubating, or launching new products, services, partnerships, or business models.
  • Experience in healthcare, life sciences, managed care, digital health, provider services, consumer health, pharmaceutical services, or adjacent sectors.
  • Management consulting, corporate strategy, venture investing, corporate innovation, or business development experience.
  • Demonstrated success building strong relationships with senior leaders, cross-functional partners, and external stakeholders.
  • Experience bringing innovative or non-traditional ideas to leadership and successfully driving organizational buy-in.
  • Experience evaluating partnerships, growth opportunities, strategic investments, or commercialization initiatives.
     

Education

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required. MBA or other relevant advanced degree preferred

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$67,900.00 - $182,549.00


This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.  This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
