The Senior Mechanical Engineer leads the mechanical engineering execution of complex material handling and conveyor system projects from design through installation. This role provides technical leadership, ensures compliance with customer requirements, and partners with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions on schedule and within budget. The Senior Mechanical Engineer also mentors Mechanical Engineers, supports customers and field teams, and drives engineering excellence through continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the mechanical engineering execution of medium to large material handling and conveyor projects.
- Serve as the primary mechanical engineering technical resource for customers, project teams, vendors, and field personnel.
- Review project scope, customer specifications, system designs, and contract requirements to ensure successful execution.
- Conduct system design, 3D models, and constructability reviews while resolving technical and installation issues.
- Develop and maintain engineering schedules that support project milestones and installation timelines.
- Manage mechanical engineering deliverables, change orders, material requests, and drawing releases.
- Coordinate engineering activities with Project Management, Electrical Engineering, Purchasing, Fabrication, and Field Installation.
- Mentor and support Project Engineers and designers by providing technical guidance and coaching.
- Review engineering drawings for quality, accuracy, and compliance with standards.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on engineering quality, customer satisfaction, and project execution.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent combination of education and applicable experience.
- 6–10 years of material handling or conveyor systems engineering experience.
- Experience leading medium to large engineering projects.
- Strong knowledge of conveyor systems, mechanical design, and engineering standards.
- Excellent communication, leadership, problem-solving, and project coordination skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Inventor; experience with Navisworks, BIM, and Microsoft Project is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, schedule-driven environment.
- Approximately 10% domestic travel based on project needs.
