Job Description:

Job Purpose

The Nextracker Sr. Mechanical Engineer is responsible for component design of the Earth Truss foundation system.  The job encompasses the entire part life cycle, including conceptual development, detailed design, fabrication and test of prototypes, fabrication and test of production units, field testing, and maintenance.  Ideal candidates will be as comfortable in the lab/shop/field as they are at their office desks.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for design of parts for new and existing Earth Truss components
  • Work with a cross-functional team to define requirements of new products
  • Develop concepts of various ways of implementing a particular function, them downselect to a preferred implementation
  • Design and fabricate prototypes, test, and refine; include working with internal machine shop and external vendors
  • Design production parts
  • Work with procurement to source production parts
  • Use design tools such as FEA, FMEA, and DFx to guide design decisions
  • Create detailed CAD models and drawings (in SolidWorks)
  • Work hands-on in mechanical domain
  • Be a teammate to a wide range of individuals in varied situations
    • Requires interacting with people in all areas of the company, including design engineers, field engineers, construction workers
  • 3 weeks per year travel required, mostly in the western US
  • Field work will typically be on a utility scale solar site, and requires the ability to lift objects of up to 25 pounds and occasionally climb on parts of a machine

Job Qualifications:

  • BSME required
  • 5+ years mechanical design experience
  • Fluent in English
  • Good people skills – communication and interpersonal
  • Construction or mechanic experience desirable

Current Work Status

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis (will not sponsor visas)

Pay Range (Applicable to California)

$135,000.00 - $150,000.00 dependent on level of experience
