Who we are

With its A.I.-powered robotic technology platform, Symbotic is changing the way consumer goods move through the supply chain. Intelligent software orchestrates advanced robots in a high-density, end-to-end system – reinventing warehouse automation for increased efficiency, speed and flexibility.

What we need

We are looking for Senior Mechatronics and Hardware engineers to join our Ohmni products team within our West Coast Technology Hub. Your job will be to own and develop current (OhmniCare, OhmniClean) products and emerging healthcare robotics platforms. This role is responsible for the end-to-end development of advanced robotic hardware systems from concept, architecture, and industrial design through prototyping, validation, and scalable production. The engineer in this role will design electromechanical subsystems, integrate sensors and actuators, refine motion control and feedback systems, and work hands-on across product design, testing, manufacturing readiness, and production-line execution. Success in this position requires a strong multidisciplinary skill set spanning mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, and robotics engineering, along with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams, optimize system performance, and continuously improve quality and cost. This individual is expected to be both a technical leader and a proactive problem solver, capable of driving complex robotic platforms from prototype to reliable, manufacturable, customer-ready products.

What we do

The OhmniLabs team leads all hardware operations for Symbotic’s healthcare robotics products. We own the full physical lifecycle of our robots, including mechanical and electrical design, PCB development, prototyping, testing, product safety, regulatory compliance, and manufacturing transition. We work closely with software, product, and field teams to ensure seamless integration and reliable performance in hospitals and care environments. We also support production, deployments, and fleet readiness to keep systems running at their best. As a lean, highly collaborative team, we take a hands-on approach and contribute across a broad range of hardware engineering disciplines.

What you’ll do

  • Design, develop, and integrate robotic hardware systems including actuators, sensors, electromechanical subsystems, motion control, and industrial design execution; ensuring high performance, durability, and reliability.

  • Rapidly prototype components, conduct structural/thermal analyses, and validate designs through performance testing, durability assessments, and failure-mode analysis.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally across mechanical, electrical, firmware, software, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless system integration, production feasibility, and optimization of system performance.

  • Implement and refine motor control, sensor fusion, feedback control, and communication protocols to enable robust real-time robotic operation.

  • Own product and part development from concept through QMS compliance, documentation (CAD, schematics, BOMs, assembly procedures), pilot builds, production-line execution, and scalable manufacturing transition.

  • Drive continuous improvement in cost, quality, manufacturability, and design language using lean principles, while staying current on robotics advancements to incorporate innovative technologies.

What we need

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Robotics, or Computer Engineering (or related discipline).

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in hardware, mechatronics, or robotics engineering, with hands-on work in electromechanical integration, prototyping, and system-level development.

  • Proficiency with MCAD/ECAD along with a strong understanding of fabrication and manufacturing processes.

  • Experience with actuators, motor controllers, feedback control systems, sensor integration, embedded systems, robotic kinematics/dynamics, and simulation/ROS tools.

  • Knowledge of industrial design principles, mockup development, lean manufacturing, QMS/MES processes, vendor interaction, and regulatory/safety compliance standards.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects in dynamic development cycles.

Our environment

  • Up to 10% of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.

  • The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.
