About Onebrief

Onebrief is collaboration and AI-powered workflow software designed specifically for military staffs. By transforming this work, Onebrief makes the staff as a whole superhuman - meaning faster, smarter, and more efficient.

We take ownership, seek excellence, and play to win with the seriousness and camaraderie of an Olympic team. Onebrief operates as an all-remote company, though many of our employees work alongside our customers at military commands around the world.

Founded in 2019 by a group of experienced planners, today, Onebrief’s team spans veterans from all forces and global organizations, and technologists from leading-edge software companies. We’ve raised $123m+ from top-tier investors, including Battery Ventures, General Catalyst, Insight Partners, and Human Capital, and today, Onebrief is valued at $1.1B. With this continued growth, Onebrief is able to make an impact where it matters most.

About the Role:

We’re looking for a Senior Performance Testing Engineer to lead the design, development, and execution of our performance and scalability testing strategy. You’ll partner closely with Product and Engineering teams to ensure our mission-critical platform is reliable, performant, and ready to scale with our rapidly growing user base.

In this role, you’ll define what “performance quality” means at Onebrief, contributing to frameworks, metrics, and automation that allow us to understand and improve system performance continuously. You’ll introduce best practices around performance testing, help integrate them into CI/CD, and mentor others in data-driven performance engineering.

This is a foundational role that will shape how we think about performance, reliability, and quality as we scale our product and infrastructure.

About You:

You’re an experienced performance engineer who thrives on data, automation, and continuous improvement. You understand that performance isn’t just a test at the end — it’s a culture that’s built into design, code, and delivery from day one. You enjoy collaborating with engineers, architects, and DevOps teams to identify bottlenecks, improve observability, and scale systems efficiently.

You’re motivated by impact, eager to contribute to a high-performing team, and excited by Onebrief’s mission to empower military staff with world-class software.

What You’ll Do:
  • Lead performance testing strategy, planning, and execution using k6 (open-source and cloud).

  • Design and implement robust, reusable, and parameterized performance test scripts in Typescript.

  • Simulate realistic load, stress, and soak test scenarios across APIs, web applications, and microservices.

  • Analyze results to uncover bottlenecks and performance issues across front-end, backend, and database layers.

  • Partner with Developers, DevOps, and Architects to integrate performance objectives into the CI/CD pipeline.

  • Work with stakeholders to define and maintain performance SLAs and ensure adherence across environments.

  • Collaborate with the Quality Enablement team to evolve our performance observability, tooling, and metrics strategy.

  • Mentor engineers on performance testing best practices, code efficiency, and scalability principles.

  • Present detailed reports and insights that guide product and infrastructure improvements.

What We Look For:

Required:

  • 7+ years of experience in performance testing and engineering.

  • Strong hands-on experience with k6, including scripting, scenario modeling, and analysis.

  • Proficiency in JavaScript/Typescript for k6 scripting.

  • Experience with Grafana, Prometheus, InfluxDB, or similar monitoring and metrics tools.

  • Strong understanding of HTTP, REST, WebSockets, and microservices architectures.

  • Solid experience integrating performance tests in CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins).

  • Experience with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and distributed load testing setups.

  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience with additional performance tools (e.g., JMeter, Gatling, Artillery).

  • Familiarity with playwright, either in e2e or in Artillery/K6/Locust

  • Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes for containerized test environments.

  • Experience building performance dashboards and observability pipelines.

  • ISTQB Performance Tester certification or similar credentials.

Most Importantly, You Are a True Onebriefer
  • You are obsessed with creating value for real users.

  • You are ambitious, scrappy, and a creative problem-solver.

  • You learn quickly, work iteratively, and naturally seek collaboration.

  • You approach your work with integrity, intellectual honesty, and low ego.

  • You communicate frankly, clearly, and succinctly.

  • You thrive as a self-starter, embracing autonomy and ambiguity.
