Zoox’s System Design and Mission Assurance (SDMA) team constructs the Safety Case and validates that our vehicles are safe for autonomous driving. SDMA enables Zoox to rapidly iterate and safely expand capabilities through trustworthy, innovative, and pragmatic safety engineering. As a Platform System Vehicle Test Engineer at Zoox, you will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team to develop and test systems that enable and support our robotaxi, ensuring the safety and performance of the closed-loop drive system.
The Platform System Vehicle Test Engineer will have strong technical skills, and a deep understanding of functional safety technical solutions and verification techniques based on ISO 26262 or similar standards. You will be responsible for developing and executing vehicle-level testing for autonomous safety-critical systems.
In this role, you will:
- Develop and execute the technical and logistical planning of vehicle tests including cross-functional coordination with other teams such as systems requirements, firmware, software motion controls, vehicle engineering, and operations
Interpret complex test data, and strategize the optimal balance between physical vehicle testing and simulation to ensure comprehensive test coverage - Analyze system requirements to understand the safety concept
- Maintain traceability between requirements, test cases, and results
- Design, develop, and operate the Zoox Robot, test equipment, and instrumentation systems
- Troubleshoot and debug issues in the field, and trace failures to correct subsystems
- Perform test data analysis and report test results. Define and develop automated data extraction tools to streamline and continuously improve analysis and reporting.
Qualifications:
- B.S. or higher degree in Automotive Engineering, Aerospace, Robotics, Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering
- 6+ years of test engineering experience in the automobile, robotics, or aerospace industry
- Understanding of vehicle dynamics and vehicle drive and chassis systems (such as motors, brakes, and steering)
- Understanding of control theory and feedback control systems
- Confident with automotive electronics and communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet)
- Proficiency with test scripting and data analysis languages such as Python or Matlab
- Analytical skills and hands-on experience
Bonus Qualifications:
- Experience developing integration and test plans and procedures for safety critical automotive systems, robotic systems, and/or autonomous vehicles
- Familiarity with CAPL
- Experience with Linux Systems, OxTS
