Job Description

We’re excited to be adding a Senior Product Designer to our growing team! This is an engaging and challenging opportunity that plays an integral role in shaping the development of our upcoming connected Master Lock and Yale & August B2B products. We are looking for a creative, user-obsessed and results-oriented product designer who wants to live on the edge of technologies that bring software and hardware together, within the connected home. 

This position will report directly to the Senior Principal Product Designer. We are seeking a Senior Product Designer to support our efforts in building world-class solutions for our B2B products, as well as our business partners. You will play a key role in building smart security products that people love. 

POSITION LOCATION:

This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule with all work performed in San Francisco CA (or Deerfield, IL) where the candidate will be expected to be on-site 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday).

RESPONSIBLIITIES:

  • Using your full range of skills (UX design, design thinking, interaction design, prototyping, visual design) to drive elegant user experiences that span digital (mobile, web) and physical (devices) interfaces to solve problems that matter to users. 
  • Owning design independently across multiple product areas throughout the entire product lifecycle, from concept to launch and beyond. 
  • Consistently leveraging all available quantitative and qualitative data to inform design decisions and proactively identifying or creating new data sources when needed. 
  • Communicating and collaborating closely with software and hardware product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to align on strategy and solutions. 
  • Advocating for changes, refinements, and ongoing improvements to the user experience, using data and design principles to drive decision-making. 
  • Working across the entire design stack: refining problem definitions, ideating solutions, iterating flows and interactions, building detailed prototypes, and producing high-fidelity visuals. 
  • Facilitating and leading workshops with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, including journey mapping sessions, design sprints, and design critiques. 
  • Planning, leading, and synthesizing insights from user research and testing activities to inform product strategy. 
  • Maintaining comprehensive documentation of user experiences in accordance with design practices and standards. 
  • Collaborating with internal teams, ecosystem partners, and external stakeholders to create unified, seamless user experiences across multiple digital and physical touchpoints. 
  • Mentoring and supporting junior and mid-level designers through constructive feedback, design reviews to foster a collaborative, growth-oriented design culture. 

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of design experience, with 2+ years focused on IoT or connected products. 
  • A BA/BS in design, UX/UI, HCI, or equivalent professional experience. 
  • Proven experience owning and driving end-to-end product design independently as part of cross-functional teams (product, engineering, QA) in an agile/scrum environment. 
  • Expert proficiency in Figma, including advanced knowledge of variants, variables, component architecture, and building scalable design systems from the ground up. 
  • Deep experience designing, documenting, and governing design systems across multiple products and platforms. 
  • Fluency with advanced interaction design and prototyping tools like Protopie for high-fidelity interactive prototypes. 
  • Proficiency with Jira for project tracking and cross-functional collaboration. 
  • Exceptional visual design skills with the ability to deliver polished, pixel-perfect interfaces. 
  • Deep understanding of user-centered design principles with the ability to distill complex physical and digital interactions into seamless, intuitive experiences. 
  • Expert-level skills in developing user mental models, use cases, and user journeys. 
  • Strong user research capabilities, including planning studies, leading interviews, facilitating workshops, and synthesizing insights to inform product strategy. 
  • Mastery in thinking holistically about user experiences with relentless attention to detail across all possible states, micro-interactions, error handling, and edge cases. 
  • Experience facilitating design thinking workshops and leading collaborative design activities with diverse stakeholders. 
  • Advanced understanding of Material Design and Apple's Human Interface Guidelines. 
  • Knowledge of how connected devices communicate over the internet, including familiarity with IoT platforms. 
  • Basic understanding of electronics and firmware development processes for IoT devices. 
  • Knowledge of SwiftUI and Jetpack Compose capabilities is a plus. 
  • Experience leveraging AI tools and techniques throughout the design process. 
  • Familiarity with Indi Young's Listening Deeply research methodology. 
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills. 
  • A proactive, self-directed approach to design decision-making and problem-solving, with strong organizational skills. 
  • Experience leading cross-functional collaboration and building alignment across diverse teams. 
  • A portfolio showcasing B2B product design work for both web platforms and native mobile apps, with case studies that show your complete process from discovery and research to execution, including measurable impact on users and business. 

Additional Information

Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is Hiring Pay Range: $110,000 USD - $165,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based sales incentive plan.
