About Plasmidsaurus

Plasmidsaurus is on a mission to accelerate new cures and promote a healthier planet by unlocking a new level of productivity for scientists. Our sequencing services are used daily by thousands of innovators, including Nobel laureates, Fortune 100 pharma, and over 70,000 scientists.

We began by revolutionizing plasmid sequencing, making it exponentially cheaper and faster, with innovative sequencing technologies and a global network of laboratories that turn samples into answers in hours, not weeks.

Now we are expanding that same disruptive model across all of genomics. With the launch of our new RNA-seq service, we are taking a bold step toward our vision to sequence everything, providing scientists everywhere with faster, simpler, and more affordable access to the data that powers discovery.

Every team member at Plasmidsaurus plays a crucial role in driving the future of biotech research. Together, we are building the world’s most efficient sequencing engine that operates overnight, scales globally, and helps scientists make breakthroughs faster than ever before.

Role Overview

As the Senior Product Manager, Microbial, you'll establish Plasmidsaurus as the leading sequencing services provider for the microbial research community. You'll define where we win, build products customers need, and expand a differentiated portfolio that drives durable revenue growth and customer satisfaction.

The Senior Product Manager owns the strategy and roadmap to expand and evolve our microbial portfolio, which includes bacterial and yeast whole genome sequencing, shotgun metagenomics, and microbiome analysis. Success in this role depends on deeply understanding our customers, identifying market gaps to introduce new offerings, and turning those insights into products that drive revenue, adoption, and customer satisfaction.

What You'll Do

Define the Portfolio Strategy
  • Serve as the company's expert on microbial customers, their workflows, and challenges.

  • Develop and own the microbial portfolio strategy, identifying where Plasmidsaurus can create meaningful differentiation and long-term growth.

  • Prioritize product investments based on customer value, scientific opportunity, technical feasibility, and business impact.

Build Products Customers Want
  • Lead customer discovery, market research, competitive analysis, and business case development for new products and services.

  • Own the microbial product roadmap from concept through launch and ongoing lifecycle management.

  • Partner with R&D, Engineering, Commercial and Lab teams to translate customer needs into scalable sequencing products.

Drive Commercial Success
  • Work closely Marketing and Sales to develop product positioning, launch plans, and commercial strategy.

  • Monitor portfolio performance and continuously improve adoption, customer satisfaction, and revenue.

  • Use customer feedback and business performance to refine priorities and inform future product investments.

What Success Looks Like

Within Six Months
  • You have developed a strong understanding of our microbial customers, their workflows, and the unmet needs across our target markets. Colleagues look to you as the internal expert on microbial customers and the products that serve them.

  • You've published a clear portfolio strategy with cross-functional support, established a prioritized product roadmap, and are leading execution against it.

  • Customer research has resulted in at least one compelling business case for a new product or service, and you've partnered with Sales and Marketing to drive revenue growth and customer adoption.

Within One Year
  • You have demonstrated success leading cross-functional execution of the microbial portfolio strategy by achieving agreed upon revenue, adoption, and satisfaction goals.

  • At least one new product has successfully launched from concept through commercialization, strengthening Plasmidsaurus's position within the microbial research community and contributing measurable growth in revenue, adoption, and customer satisfaction.

Who You Are
  • You're energized by understanding your customers as deeply as you understand the science behind your products. You thrive when talking with researchers, uncovering unmet needs, synthesizing complex information, and turning those insights into products that solve meaningful problems.

  • You understand that product management is about making decisions. You can prioritize competing opportunities, build alignment across stakeholders, and influence teams without relying on formal authority.

  • You optimize for impact and outcomes and can select for the priorities that will matter most to the customer and the business.

  • You are comfortable and adept making decisions without complete information. You effectively evaluate tradeoffs and make decisions that drive excellence without sacrificing speed and efficiency.

  • You combine scientific credibility with commercial thinking and are equally comfortable discussing microbial workflows with researchers or business cases with company leadership.

Your Background
  • PhD preferred (or other advanced degree) in molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, or a related field.

  • At least 5 years of experience launching products or services that deliver clear customer value.

  • Deep understanding of microbial research, customer segments, and sequencing applications.

  • Direct experience researching bacteria, yeast, viruses, microbial communities, or related systems.

  • Strong product management fundamentals, including customer research, market analysis, prioritization, roadmap development, pricing strategy, and business case modeling.

  • Technical familiarity with long- and short-read sequencing technologies, associated library preparation methods, and downstream data analysis.

  • Familiarity with microbiology laboratory methods.

  • Experience spanning the sequencing workflow from sample preparation through data analysis, is preferred.

Ways of Working

Build — You don't start with product ideas, you start with customers. You combine scientific insight, customer research, and first-principles thinking to identify where Plasmidsaurus can create products competitors haven't imagined or can't easily replicate.

Own — You own the microbial portfolio end to end. You make thoughtful product decisions, maintain a clear point of view, and take responsibility for outcomes long after a product launches.

Move — You balance scientific rigor with urgency. You efficiently gather enough information to make good decisions, keep cross-functional teams moving, and don't allow uncertainty to become an excuse for inaction.

Participate — Great products are built through collaboration. You actively seek input from customers, scientists, engineers, commercial teams, and leadership, building alignment while challenging assumptions and advocating for what customers need most.

Inspire — You help the company think bigger about microbial sequencing. Through your expertise, curiosity, and customer insight, you raise the quality of product thinking across the organization and help teams rally around opportunities that create lasting value for researchers.

We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't perfectly align with the job description as we seek out diverse and creative perspectives. Team members who love to learn and collaborate in an inclusive environment will thrive with us. We are an equal opportunity employer and do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
