Position Summary 

We’re looking for a strategic, driven, and business-minded Senior Product Marketing Manager for web application firewalls (WAF) to join our team. If you thrive at the intersection of strategy, storytelling, and cross-functional collaboration—especially within the security space—we want to hear from you.

The Senior Product Marketing Manager (PMM) for web application firewalls (WAF) will launch and support WAFs and WAF-related products and services. The role requires a technical understanding of WAFs and excellent writing and presentation skills.  The right candidate must have marketing strategy, execution, and business analysis skills, and a proven track record of effectively leading the product marketing for technology products and solutions. This individual will create product messaging and positioning, launch and support new products, enable sales and channel teams, and engage directly with customers and partners. Experience with and developing competitive analysis and product pricing will also be vital to this role.  

Our ideal candidate will have a Product Marketing or Product Management background, have strong leadership, communication and project management skills able to work effectively with cross-functional teams, and to lead and execute on a wide variety of initiatives. Demonstrable skill in developing customer- and sales-facing presentations and other materials including sales playbooks, white papers, solution overviews, data sheets, website content, videos, and written communications to employees and external stakeholders, is mandatory. 

This role is all about connecting customer need, market trends, and business goals to deliver exceptional product positioning and go-to-market (GTM) strategies. You will shape how F5 WAF products are seen in the world, and you will drive the success of our solutions—from awareness to adoption.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop compelling product messaging and positioning that resonates and differentiates F5 web application firewall products in the market 
  • Serve as the strategic voice of the customer and market, identifying key business challenges and developing actionable paths to solve them
  • Partner closely with Product Management on all aspects regarding WAF and WAF-related products, including but not limited to product features and capabilities, use cases, product pricing models and strategies, and competitive analysis and pricing  
  • Craft high-impact presentations and product collateral such as sales, customer, and analyst presentations, product overviews and data sheets, FAQs, briefs, and webinars that communicate a clear and powerful story
  • Lead competitive intelligence efforts—monitor trends, research and analyze competitors and their products, produce competitive materials including competitive battlecards, competitive presentation materials, and rapid responses, and leverage this competitive knowledge make informed recommendations on packaging, positioning, and pricing
  • Develop and implement go-to-market (GTM) strategies and plans through deep understanding of customer needs and use cases, market dynamics, and the competitive landscape, coordinating with cross-functional teams including Corporate Marketing, Sales/Channel Readiness, and Business Development teams 
  • Enable Sales and Channel Partner teams by creating and communicating the value proposition of F5 web application firewalls and developing all necessary sales tools to support the sales motion of WAF and WAF-related products 
  • Support product and services launches by developing product marketing strategy launch plans for new products and releases, and managing the cross-functional implementation of those plans 
  • Build and leverage market intelligence by understanding new and emerging F5 buyers, how they buy and their buying criteria, and by understanding the competition and how to position successfully 
  • Continuously evaluate strategy using customer and market data, and pivot where necessary
  • Contribute to integrated marketing efforts by delivering product content and participating in activities for the marketing campaigns and programs that drive F5 product demand
  • Lead engagements with Sales and Channel teams, customers, and partners via webinars, direct meetings, marketing communications, and industry events 
  • Present marketing strategies and plans to senior and executive level management   
  • Lead engagements with industry press and trade analysts 
  • Lead and mentor teammates on the Product Marketing team 
  • Responsible for upholding F5’s Business Code of Ethics and for promptly reporting violations of the Code or other company policies 
  • Champion a business-first mindset, always aligning marketing efforts with product adoption and revenue growth goals
  • Own your role: take initiative, bring solutions, and hold yourself to a high standard of accountability
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  

  • Significant relevant experience in web application firewalls (WAF) and the WAF market
  • Experience with WAF-related products and in the security market
  • Experience working in a global role and understanding marketing differences across different regions  
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills including in creating and delivering public presentations
  • Demonstrated success in working effectively across teams and organizations in a global and often virtual work environment, building trust across Sales, Product, and Marketing teams
  • Knowledge of enterprise marketing and sales processes 
  • Ability to and experience in effectively leadership of high visibility project initiatives 
  • Substantial experience in competitive positioning, pricing, and go-to-market strategy.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and execution skills 
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and making quick, accurate, confident decisions
  • A proactive problem-solver who can turn insights into action, fast
  • Understanding of cloud, SaaS, and/or container-based technologies is a plus  
  • Duties are performed in a normal office environment while sitting at a desk or computer table
  • Duties require the ability to utilize a computer, communicate over the telephone, and read printed materials
  • Duties may require being on call periodically or working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends)
  • Duties may require the ability to travel via automobile or airplane up to 20% of the time

Qualifications 

·         BA/BS degree required.  MBA Preferred 

·         6+ years of experience in security product marketing, product management, technical marketing, or equivalent  

·         6+ years analyzing products, customers, and market dynamics

The annual base pay for this position is: $137,600.00 - $206,400.00

F5 maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, geographic locations, and market conditions, as well as to reflect F5’s differing products, industries, and lines of business. The pay range referenced is as of the time of the job posting and is subject to change.
