Overview

We are hiring a Senior Product & Privacy Counsel to be the legal partner to our product, engineering, and design teams. You will sit close to the product and advise from ideation through launch on the full range of issues our products raise: privacy, intellectual property, financial regulation, consumer protection, and more. This is a hands-on, in-house role for someone who gives practical, risk-based advice at startup speed and turns complex regulatory requirements into product that ships.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as the primary legal advisor to product, engineering, and design, embedded from concept through launch and iteration.
  • Advise on privacy and data protection by design, including GLBA and the Safeguards Rule, US state privacy laws, and GDPR for our EU operations; help shape data flows, consent, minimization, and retention.
  • Own product intellectual property matters: open-source software license review and compliance (attribution, copyleft, and distribution obligations), and third-party IP clearance for features and integrations.
  • Manage trademark strategy and the trademark portfolio, including brand and product-name clearance and filings, and handle other product-related IP issues as they arise.
  • Support patent strategy: invention harvesting and disclosures, coordinating filings and prosecution with outside counsel, building and maintaining the patent portfolio, and freedom-to-operate assessments.
  • Advise on financial regulation as it applies to features: US money transmission and state licensing considerations, BSA/AML and sanctions touchpoints, and crypto/digital-asset and payments frameworks across the regions we operate in.
  • Advise on consumer protection, including UDAP/UDAAP, required disclosures, fee and marketing practices, and user-facing terms.
  • Draft and negotiate product-related terms: user agreements, product disclosures, and terms tied to partner and vendor integrations.
  • Partner with Compliance, Information Security, Marketing, and Regulatory to align product decisions with our licensing posture and risk appetite.
  • Build scalable processes for product legal review, risk assessments, and clear sign-off paths that keep pace with a fast roadmap.
  • Track regulatory and enforcement developments that affect the product and translate them into concrete, actionable guidance.

Who You Are

  • JD and active membership in good standing of at least one US state bar.
  • 6+ years of relevant legal experience, including significant in-house time advising product teams.
  • Experience in fintech, payments, crypto, or another regulated technology environment.
  • Working knowledge of privacy and data protection, and of intellectual property as it applies to software products: open-source licensing, trademarks, patents, filings and prosecution, and IP clearance.
  • Working knowledge of US financial regulation (money transmission, BSA/AML, consumer protection), and ideally crypto or digital-asset regulation.
  • A practical, risk-based style: you give clear answers, weigh trade-offs, and are comfortable with ambiguity and speed.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and the judgment to know what to decide and when to escalate.

Nice to Have

  • Privacy certification (for example, CIPP/US or CIPP/E)
  • Exposure to EU, UK, LATAM, or APAC regulatory regimes
  • Experience helping scale a legal function in a high-growth company.

The compensation range provided may span multiple career levels and will be narrowed during the interview process based on factors including a candidate's experience, skills, qualifications, and geographic location. For candidates outside of New York or San Francisco, compensation will be adjusted to reflect the applicable market and location-based pay band. The base salary range listed excludes commission (if applicable), equity, and benefits. The pay range represents the minimum and maximum target for new-hire compensation. Actual compensation may vary and may be higher or lower depending on individual circumstances.

This is the kind of place where you'll see your work ship fast, make real impact, and be able to point to something and say, "I built that." You'll grow fast, level up your skills, and get a front-row seat to how a high-growth company scales from the inside, with competitive comp, solid benefits, and room to stretch your craft all coming standard. In-Office Expectations

Employees based in our San Francisco, New York, and Bangalore hubs are expected to work from the office at least 40% of the time (approximately two days per week). This expectation may vary slightly depending on role, team, and business needs. Certain roles that require closer cross-functional collaboration or operational support may have additional in-office requirements, which will be discussed during the interview process. Our hybrid approach is designed to balance meaningful in-person collaboration, team building, and real-time decision-making with the flexibility to work remotely. We believe this structure supports strong execution while preserving autonomy and focus time.

We believe great work happens when people feel valued and supported. That starts with competitive salary and equity that grows as you and the company grow, plus comprehensive health coverage for you and your family. We offer unlimited PTO—and we mean it. We're invested in your growth with a dedicated budget for courses, conferences, and certifications. Work from wherever you're most productive with our remote-friendly approach, and count on having the top-tier tools and equipment you need to do exceptional work.
