We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Research Associate, Enzyme Development to join our team!

As a Senior Research Associate, Enzyme Development, you will focus on the development, preparation, formulation, analysis, and quality control of novel DNA amplification reagents. This role offers opportunity to work in a collaborative environment, learning new skills and techniques. You will be an integral part of our team, contributing to R&D innovations and product launch efforts. 

This is a full-time, on-site position at our Carlsbad, CA office.

How You’ll Contribute

  • Perform standard molecular biology techniques such as plasmid minipreps, transformations, agarose gel electrophoresis, SDS gel electrophoresis
  • Perform protein expression in bacterial host using shaker flask and fermentation equipment, as well as protein purification using affinity and ion exchange chromatography
  • Conduct assay of reagents for purity and quality
  • Assist in development and optimization of new laboratory protocols, and in troubleshooting experiments as needed
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and inventory
  • Other job duties as assigned

Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • BS in biological sciences or related field
  • 3-4 years’ experience working in biotech industry, academic research, or manufacturing environment
  • Hands-on experience in microbial fermentation, protein expression, and purification
  • Ability to work independently with flexibility to adjust work schedule as needed to maintain efficiency of cell culturing and protein handling, including occasional early morning/nights and weekends
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, such as moving easily in a lab environment, frequent pipetting, intermittent standing, bending, crouching, pushing/pulling, lifting/moving/carrying heavy objects (up to 50 lbs)

At Ultima Genomics, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays between $70,000 and $82,000, if performed in Southern California, and your actual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.  Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits. This role is also eligible for a competitive benefits package that includes: medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance; 401(k) retirement plan; flexible spending & health savings account; paid holidays; paid time off; employee assistance program; and other company benefits.
