We are seeking a Senior Operations Engineer – Resins to join the team responsible for critical resin manufacturing processes. This role operates cross-functionally and reports to the Director of Operations Engineering for Materials. The successful candidate will partner closely with Supply Chain, Materials R&D, and Operations Engineering teams to drive continuous improvement across resin operations.

This role will be located in our Sunnyvale, CA headquarters and is full time onsite.

You will:
  • Supplier Operations & Technical Liaison: Serve as the primary technical point of contact with key resin supplier locations. Lead and support projects to implement new products, process and packaging changes, and manufacturing capability improvements in close partnership with the materials development team.
  • Process & Equipment Implementation: Support the implementation of chemical manufacturing processes, instrumentation, and equipment changes at supplier sites — ensuring effectiveness in process engineering and design, and scaling manufacturing efforts for maximum productivity and quality performance.
  • Quality & Performance Improvement: Drive measurable improvements in quality, cost, and lead-time performance with a high degree of autonomy. Apply advanced problem-solving tools and methodologies to consistently meet production targets.
  • Supply Chain Collaboration & Supplier Development: Partner with the supply chain team to monitor supplier performance and cultivate strong relationships with Carbon's resin suppliers and distributors. Assess supplier and distributor capabilities — both existing and prospective — to ensure alignment with Carbon's technical, quality, and capacity requirements. Represent and communicate supplier capabilities internally to inform sourcing decisions and production planning.
  • Strategic Sourcing & Cost Optimization: Take an active role in strategic sourcing activities, including identifying and qualifying alternative suppliers for existing and new materials. Engage in preliminary commercial negotiations, evaluate total cost of ownership, and pursue cost reduction opportunities through process improvements, alternate sourcing strategies, and competitive benchmarking.
  • Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Action: Lead cross-functional efforts to identify root causes and implement lasting corrective actions for quality and production issues related to Carbon resins.
  • Advanced Quality Planning: Design and develop manufacturing processes using advanced quality planning, risk reduction, and audit tools to achieve cost-effectiveness and meet product quality goals.
You have: Education & General Experience
  • Education: B.S. in Chemical, Biochemical, Industrial, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 8+ years of experience in chemical production or a similar process manufacturing environment.
  • Site Experience: Demonstrated experience working at or closely with manufacturing facilities; supplier-facing experience strongly preferred.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel to supplier sites as needed (up to ~20% of the time).
Technical Skills
  • Process & Quality Expertise: Solid understanding of process and quality control techniques, including statistical process control (SPC) and advanced quality planning tools.
  • Problem-Solving Toolkit: Hands-on training and experience with structured problem-solving methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma, Design of Experiments (DoE), or Shainin Red X.
  • Supplier Quality: Experience in supplier quality management or supplier development programs.
  • Regulatory Familiarity: Working knowledge of chemical regulatory requirements.
