About the role:
We are seeking a talented Sr. Revenue Accountant / Manager with high-growth start-up experience and a solid understanding of GAAP revenue recognition rules. The Sr. Revenue Accountant / Manager will be responsible for owning all aspects of revenue recognition, including month-end close, contract reviews, and financial reporting and disclosures. This role will serve as a key business partner to Sales, Sales Operations, Deal Desk, Business Systems, and FP&A.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Manage the full revenue lifecycle, from contract review and technical assessment through journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement disclosures, ensuring compliance with ASC 606 and internal policies.

  • Review standard and non-standard contracts to determine appropriate revenue recognition under U.S. GAAP, including identifying performance obligations, allocating standalone selling prices (SSP), and assessing variable consideration.

  • Develop a strong understanding of the end-to-end order-to-cash process, including how quoting, ordering, and invoicing impact revenue recognition, and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Partner with Sales, Legal, Deal Desk, and other key stakeholders to support deal reviews and bookings, providing guidance on deal structuring to mitigate revenue recognition and collections risks.

  • Prepare, review, and post revenue-related journal entries, reconciliations, and schedules to support monthly and quarterly close activities.

  • Monitor unbilled accounts receivable and deferred revenue balances, and investigate and resolve unusual or aging items.

  • Review and record commission accruals and amortization in accordance with ASC 340.

  • Perform monthly and quarterly analyses, including revenue by customer, deferred revenue rollforwards, revenue accruals, SSP, and RPO balances, to support accurate reporting and identify trends.

  • Execute manual and automated revenue allocations, contract modifications, and prospective modification analyses as needed.

  • Support revenue forecasting, ad-hoc reporting, and variance analysis to aid business and strategic decision-making.

  • Partner with ERP, RevOps, and FP&A teams to improve system workflows, reporting, automation, scalability, and data accuracy.

  • Proactively identify and implement process improvements across the revenue cycle to enhance efficiency and data integrity.

  • Support special projects such as new system implementations, new product introductions (NPIs), and international expansion by providing technical accounting expertise.

  • Play a key role in the financial audit process by preparing and reviewing revenue-related schedules and disclosures for external auditors.

  • Demonstrate leadership capabilities with the potential to mentor and develop team members as the revenue function scales.

What makes you a good fit:

  • Passion for being involved in changing processes and applying automation in a complex environment.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or progress towards CPA preferred.

  • 5-7 years of experience in GAAP accounting and revenue recognition in startup and scaled / public company environments.

  • Strong understanding of ASC 606 and ASC 340, with the ability to apply the standards effectively in real-world scenarios.

  • Experience with ERP and revenue recognition systems (e.g., NetSuite ARM, SFDC, SPIFF etc.).

  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to analyze complex revenue arrangements.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with cross-functional teams and present findings to senior management.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with a high-level of accuracy.
