Peak Energy

Job Title: Senior Sales Director

Location: Burlingame, California or Broomfield, Colorado

Department: Commercial

Reports To: VP of Sales

Position Type: Full-time

About the Company

Peak Energy is the first American venture to advance globally proven sodium-ion battery systems as the storage standard for the new era of renewable energy on a resilient grid.

Sodium-ion is cheap, readily available, and safe — making it the leading contender in a rapidly evolving market.

Our leadership team is powered by decades of expertise in scaling gigawatt-level innovation at world-class companies such as Tesla, Northvolt, Apple, Powin, Enovix, Zipline, Solid Power, SunPower, and Fluence. We are backed by strategic investment and product partners including TDK Ventures, Eclipse Ventures, and GM Ventures.

We recently announced America's first sodium-ion grid storage factory in Sacramento with production starting Q1 2027, and over $1B in signed customer commitments including Jupiter Power and Energy Vault.

About the Job

As a Senior Sales Director, you’ll lead the charge in shaping Peak Energy’s commercial success. You’ll be responsible for identifying, developing, and closing large-scale energy storage opportunities with utility, developer, EPC, and IPP partners. This is a high-impact, senior role where you’ll own strategic customer relationships and help drive adoption of our sodium-ion storage systems across the U.S. market.

You’ll work closely with Product, Engineering, and Deployment teams to ensure solutions are aligned with customer needs and project success. This is a unique opportunity to introduce a transformative battery technology to the grid — and shape the commercial foundations of a fast-growing energy company.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full commercial lifecycle — from prospecting and initial engagement through deal structuring, negotiation, and close.
  • Build and manage a robust pipeline of utility-scale and distributed storage opportunities across the U.S., including strategic opportunities
  • Cultivate and expand relationships with developers, utilities, IPPs, EPCs, and corporate energy buyers.
  • Translate customer requirements into compelling proposals in collaboration with our Product and Engineering teams.
  • Deliver customer feedback to internal teams to inform product roadmaps and go-to-market strategy.
  • Represent Peak at industry conferences, customer meetings, and events.
  • Lead deal teams focused on closing key sales agreements, such as project RFPs, COAs, and ESSAs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in driving strategic sales, business development, or account management — ideally in energy storage, grid infrastructure, or renewable project development.
  • Demonstrated success in leading negotiations on large, complex deals with utilities, IPPs, developers, or energy buyers.
  • Strong technical fluency — able to grasp, articulate, identify, and formulate energy storage value propositions and system trade-offs.
  • Proven ability to operate in fast-paced, early-stage environments with minimal structure.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills across all hierarchy levels.
  • Passion for renewable energy, sustainability, and driving positive environmental impact through technology innovation.
  • Peer leadership skills that enable Peak Energy to grow as a company, and for your peers to grow as individuals.
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise selling energy storage systems (ESS), grid-connected assets, or utility-scale hardware solutions.
  • Expertise with RFP processes, interconnection timelines, and project development cycles.
  • Existing high-level relationships within utilities, IPPs, or clean energy developers.
  • Deep understanding of how to quantify product competitiveness like total cost of ownership (TCO), levelized cost of storage (LCOS), and relevant system architecture considerations.

Peak Energy is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce. We strongly encourage women, people of color, and individuals from underrepresented groups to apply. We value skills, potential, and perspective over specific credentials. If you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t look perfect on paper, we still want to hear from you.

Our Core Values

  • Speed Through Focus - Move fast but understand why. Focus on the goal, don't sacrifice quality.

  • Mission Over Self - It's about the greater good; confident humility. Take ownership and accountability.

  • Face the Brutal Truth - Transparency, honesty, big picture curiosity. Fearless decision making.

  • Be a Good Person - Kindness, collaboration and teamwork.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this role is $150,000–$275,000, with actual pay varying based on work location, experience, and skills. Our competitive benefits package includes:

  • Flexible time off

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage

  • Strong 401(k) plan

  • Equity opportunities

  • Many great work perks

Join us to thrive in a supportive environment while making a meaningful impact in the energy sector!
