The Systems Software Architect role is a subject matter expert encompassing leading designs, captures, and efforts associated with seeker and guidance technology. This role requires the candidate to be capable of deep diving into RF Seeker software architectures, support the planning, technical strategy, scope management, scope execution, and be comfortable with mentoring a technical team comprised of both Software and Systems Engineers. The candidate may coordinate with other Chief Engineers, Discipline SME's, Technical Directors, Program Managers, and the Product Line Director, to ensure the right product is built and customer needs are met.
This role will be staffed in Huntsville, AL. Our Engineering team in Huntsville is working in a recently opened, state of the art facility and operating in a unique environment. Here, we have the power and resources of BAE Systems behind us, while working in a dynamic and flexible model. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Act on a wide breadth of Software development experience for Tactical Embedded Systems through full system life cycle development, including subsystem design, system requirements, implementation, integration, and test
- Provide subject matter expertise in Software Architecture, Design, and Development, and support technical leadership of projects within programmatic guidelines set by the customer and the Product Line
- Lead complex trade studies to evaluate competing architectural approaches, balancing performance, cost, schedule, and Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) constraints
- Drive the technical strategy, scope management, and planning phases for seeker development programs to align with product line goals
- Define and govern the critical software interfaces between the RF front-end, digital signal processing (DSP) layers, and the flight control software
- Define, generate, and review customer project requirements and needs, and interfaces with customers to create opportunities, communicate solutions, set expectations, and manage scope
- Guide projects to ensure work scope, schedule, and budget are practical, well-defined and maintained, and act as a mentor to both junior and senior engineers.
- Supports continuous improvement of the product development team.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field (i.e. Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science) and a minimum of 8 years' applicable experience
- Active Secret Clearance
- Demonstrated expertise in software systems architectures and design, namely for RF/Radar sensors and seekers
- Experience leading full lifecycle System Software development, preferably on complex, tactical systems
- Proven leadership experience, preferably guiding software lifecycle projects
- Experience managing teams through system integration and verification for complex systems
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- In depth exposure to Sensor/Seeker designs spanning multiple domains to include two or more of the following: active RF/Radar, passive RF, Imaging Infrared (IIR), and semi-active laser (SAL)
- Experience working with customers in solution concept, implementation, and delivery
- Boldness and resilience in tackling challenging design activities and technologies
- Results-oriented and driven to closure/decision making
