If you thrive under pressure and want to do the most meaningful work of your career, you’ll feel right at home. If you’re looking for something easier –this isn’t it.

The Role

We are seeking a Senior Sensor Reliability Engineer who will ensure our sensor systems meet the highest performance and durability standards under real-world conditions. We are looking for someone passionate about identifying reliability risks, developing robust testing strategies, and solving complex hardware challenges. You will work cross-functionally to assess sensor designs, implement rigorous test methodologies, and help optimize sensor performance for long-term field deployment.

What You'll Help Build
  • Own the sensor reliability function, ensuring sensor systems meet stringent performance and durability requirements through advanced reliability testing.

  • Apply Design for Reliability (DfR) best practices to proactively identify and mitigate potential failure risks in sensor designs.

  • Develop and execute comprehensive test strategies to uncover failure modes, predict field failure rates, and validate off-the-shelf components in sensor systems.

  • Translate FMEA-identified risks into sensor-specific test procedures with well-defined objectives and pass/fail criteria.

  • Plan and execute Design of Experiment (DOE) campaigns to understand and mitigate failure mechanisms in sensors.

  • Design and refine test setups to evaluate sensor reliability under environmental, mechanical, and operational stress conditions, including shock, vibration, and thermal cycling tests.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate reliability findings into the sensor design and manufacturing process, ensuring robust sensor performance in the field.

  • Drive failure analysis investigations to resolve issues found during testing and field deployment.

  • Automate sensor testing processes and analyze performance data using tools like Python, JMP, or MATLAB to extract actionable insights.

What You'll Need to Succeed
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in reliability or quality engineering, with a focus on sensor systems.

  • Hands-on experience developing and validating sensor systems, particularly optomechanical products.

  • Strong knowledge of the physics of failure for electronic and optoelectronic components as applied to sensors.

  • Experience designing sensor test setups for environmental, mechanical, and operational stress conditions (e.g., shock, vibration, thermal testing).

  • Familiarity with reliability techniques such as FMEA, Weibull Analysis, Statistical Process Control (SPC), and Monte Carlo simulations.

  • Proficiency in automating sensor testing processes and defining test conditions, acceleration factors, and pass/fail criteria.

  • Understanding of hardware and firmware interactions critical to sensor performance and reliability.
