With Stord, brands can increase cart conversion, improve unit economics, and drive sustained customer loyalty. Stord’s end-to-end commerce solutions combine best-in-class omnichannel fulfillment and shipping with leading technology to ensure fast shipping, reliable delivery promises, easy access to more channels, and improved margins on every order.

Hundreds of leading DTC and B2B companies like AG1, True Classic, Native, Seed Health, quip, goodr, Sundays for Dogs, and more trust Stord to deliver industry-leading consumer experiences on every order. Stord is headquartered in Atlanta with facilities across the United States, Canada, and Europe. Stord is backed by top-tier investors including Kleiner Perkins, Franklin Templeton, Founders Fund, Strike Capital, Baillie Gifford, and Salesforce Ventures.

Stord is building the operating system for modern supply chain — a unified platform handling Order Management, Warehouse Management, Transportation, and Consumer Experience for brands doing over $10B in commerce annually. AI is not a future roadmap item here. It is actively reshaping how we route shipments, forecast demand, detect anomalies, and surface intelligence across the platform.
This role sits at the center of that transformation. You will build the TypeScript/Node.js services, APIs, and integrations that bring ML model outputs into production features used daily by hundreds of logistics operations. You will partner directly with our Director of AI Products and collaborate with Data Scientists and ML Engineers to close the gap between model and product — decisively, at scale.
If you are the kind of engineer who ships, who cares about user impact over architectural purity, and who sees AI tooling as a force multiplier rather than a novelty — this role was built for you.

Why This Role

  • Direct line from your work to shipped AI features powering real logistics operations

  • Greenfield opportunity: you will shape how AI is integrated across the platform, not inherit legacy patterns

  • Collaborate closely with Data Scientists and ML Engineers — this is a full-stack AI team, not siloed experimentation

  • Opportunity to define internal standards and tooling that other engineers build on top of

  • Work at a company where AI investment is a board-level mandate, not a pet project

What You'll Build

Hands-On Engineering

  • Design and build features across our AI platform: agent tool systems, prompt pipelines, integration APIs, and edge-deployed services

  • Work daily in our TypeScript stack: Hono on Cloudflare Workers, Durable Objects for stateful agents, D1/Drizzle for persistence, and the AI SDK (Anthropic Claude) for model interaction

  • Build scope-aware tool systems that safely expose platform capabilities (orders, inventory, knowledge base) to AI agents

  • Design fault-tolerant integrations with downstream services, including Elixir/Phoenix APIs, and ensure graceful degradation

  • Own features end-to-end: from technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production monitoring

AI/LLM Application Development

  • Build and iterate on agentic AI features — tool calling, context management, multi-step workflows, and confidence-based routing

  • Implement prompt engineering patterns, evaluation frameworks, and observability for LLM-powered systems

  • Integrate ML model outputs via API layers, collaborating with Data Scientists to understand model requirements and design clean integration boundaries

  • Contribute to the design of the Stord Agent Platform: agent orchestration, skill registries, and human-in-the-loop patterns

Technical Growth & Influence

  • Contribute to architectural decisions through design docs, code reviews, and technical discussions — forming well-reasoned opinions and defending them constructively

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior and mid-level engineers on the team

  • Identify technical risks, propose improvements, and advocate for quality — don't wait to be assigned a ticket

  • Create leverage through clear code, well-documented decisions, and reusable patterns that make others faster

  • Use AI coding tools effectively, maintaining a strong independent technical POV and producing high-quality results rather than accepting raw model output uncritically

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with Product Management and Design on feature development, providing technical perspective on feasibility and trade-offs

  • Support other product engineering teams in adopting AI capabilities within their domains

  • Participate in sprint planning, design reviews, and cross-team syncs

What We're Looking For

Required

  • TypeScript / Node.js (3+ years): Production experience building scalable backend services. This is your primary environment.

  • AI/LLM Application Development — You have built and shipped LLM-powered or agentic features in production. You understand prompt engineering, tool/function calling, context management, and the practical challenges of making AI systems reliable.

  • Distributed Systems & Edge Computing — Experience building stateful or high-availability services. Cloudflare Workers, Durable Objects, or similar edge runtime experience is a strong plus.

  • API Design & Integration — Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs, OpenAPI specifications, and event-driven architectures. You'll integrate with multiple backend services daily.

  • Database & Persistence — Strong SQL fundamentals. Experience with embedded/edge databases (D1, SQLite) or PostgreSQL. Drizzle ORM experience is a plus.

  • Cloud Platforms — Hands-on experience with Cloudflare, GCP, or AWS. Understanding of serverless and edge deployment models.

  • Observability — Experience instrumenting production systems with OpenTelemetry, Datadog, or similar. You know what to measure and how to debug in production.

Required Soft Skills

  • Ownership & Accountability — You own features end-to-end and take pride in what you ship. You follow through from design to production and don't drop things.

  • Strong Communication — You can explain technical decisions and trade-offs to engineers, PMs, and stakeholders. You ask good questions and listen well.

  • Collaborative Approach — You work well with others, give constructive code review feedback, and actively seek input from teammates.

  • Production Mindset — You prioritize reliability and user impact. You think about failure modes, monitoring, and operational concerns as part of your design process.

  • Learning Agility — You're comfortable with rapidly evolving AI/ML technologies and tools. You stay current without chasing hype.

  • Directed AI-Assisted Development — You know how to use AI coding tools as a productivity multiplier while maintaining quality and your own technical judgment.

Strongly Preferred

  • Cloudflare Workers / edge inference experience

  • Knowledge of feature stores and real-time ML serving patterns

  • Vector databases and semantic search

  • A/B testing and experimentation infrastructure

Nice to Have

  • Elixir/Phoenix experience or familiarity (downstream services use Elixir)

  • Experience with the Cloudflare developer platform (Workers, Durable Objects, D1, R2, Vectorize, AI Gateway, Queues)

  • Experience with Anthropic Claude, the AI SDK (ai / @ai-sdk/anthropic), or Model Context Protocol (MCP)

  • Knowledge of logistics, e-commerce, or supply chain domains

  • Experience with WebSocket-based real-time systems

  • Familiarity with scope-based authorization and multi-tenant systems

  • Contributions to open-source TypeScript or AI projects

What Success Looks Like

In your first 30 days, you have made a meaningful contribution to production — not a small fix, but something that moves the product. You understand our stack, our AI architecture, and our roadmap, and you have already started shaping how we approach problems. By 90 days, you are a trusted technical voice on the AI team, driving architecture decisions and setting patterns that others follow. By six months, you have shipped multiple AI-powered features end to end, you are raising the bar for how AI is built and deployed at Stord, and you are actively mentoring others on what good looks like.

About Stord

Stord is a cloud-based supply chain platform that enables brands to compete and grow through end-to-end logistics solutions. We process over $10B in commerce annually and operate across Order Management (OMS), Warehouse Management (WMS), Transportation Management (TMS), Consumer Experience, and Demand Planning. We are backed by leading investors and are rapidly scaling our engineering organization to match our ambitions.
