We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our ATS team, one of the most strategically important areas of Gem’s product suite.
For two years, we’ve been building our ATS architecture from the ground up, working closely with top companies to design a modern, AI-powered system that reimagines how recruiting teams operate. Now, we are entering an exciting new phase: we are iterating rapidly, and preparing to launch with some of the largest and most recognizable industry partners.
As a senior member of this team, you will play a critical role in:
- Designing the architecture of a system that is elegant today and will scale in the future.
- Making foundational technical decisions that will define how Gem's ATS evolves for years to come.
- Directly collaborating with customers, ensuring that what we build addresses the needs of large-scale modern recruiting teams.
We're looking for someone who balances hands-on development with long-term thinking: an engineer who can move fast but also sees around corners. This role also provides a clear growth path: you'll have the chance to mentor other engineers, take on technical leadership, and shape both product and team culture as we continue to grow.

- Own product features end-to-end, from ideation to implementation.
- Build and scale user-facing features with Typescript, React, Python, GraphQL, and PostgreSQL.
- Ensure scalability and reliability by collaborating with other engineers on data model, architecture, and product decisions.
- Stay close to customers, gathering direct feedback to inform design and development decisions.
- Embody our company values of ownership, velocity, customer centricity, diversity and transparency.
- Mentor and guide teammates, sharing your technical expertise and helping elevate the engineering bar.
- Influence company and product direction, making decisions that have immediate visible impact on our customers.

About You
- You have 5+ years of industry experience as a software engineer, building user-facing products.
- You enjoy mentoring, working cross-functionally, and working directly with customers.
- You move with velocity and invest in improving your craft.
- You prioritize technical quality, building reliable and scalable systems.
- You are product-oriented and you don’t hesitate in making decisions.
- You are energized by collaborating in-office with your peers in a hybrid model.

- Location: This role is based 3 days per week out of our San Francisco, HQ and is not eligible for full-time remote work.
- Compensation: The annual cash compensation range for this position is $190,000–$260,000 based on level in addition to equity & benefits.
