Senior Software Engineer, Databases

The Relational Database Team manages the fundamental building blocks used by both customer-facing and internal systems at Squarespace to store and process data. Your job will be to develop solutions that help scale and modernize our relational database infrastructure and operate in a global, active-active, distributed systems environment. We employ a variety of open source technologies in our tech stack that address a variety of needs (caching, databases, queues, and workflow orchestration). We are investing in the cloud and you will play a critical role in that.

This is a hybrid role working from our NYC office 3 days per week. You will report to the Senior Software Engineering Manager.

• Support our relational database infrastructure comprised of Postgres, CockroachDB, Consul, and GCP equivalent alternatives (i.e. CloudSQL).
• Work with our users to determine capacity and functionality requirements, develop monitoring tools, and maintain reliable operations.
• Partner with our client teams to understand the optimal configuration for applications that use both stateful and stateless services.
• In the short-term we're focused on migrating our infrastructure to the cloud using GCP but in the longer term there is so much opportunity to improve our current infrastructure to use the many alternatives that exist in the marketplace.

• First and foremost we are looking for the desire to assume responsibility of pieces of infrastructure and define strategies to move us forward. We are looking for engineers who take pride and satisfaction in creating rock solid systems.
• Experience relevant to Postgres, CockroachDB, and GCP. Expertise developing backend services, ETL streaming, and message processing using compiled languages.
• 5+ years of experience writing automation scripts and libraries in the data world.
• Proficiency in CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab, etc.)

The base salary for this position will vary based on job-related criteria including relevant skills, experience, and location, among other factors.

In addition to the cash compensation above (which includes base salary and, where applicable for eligible roles, may include on-target commissions or overtime pay), Squarespace employees are eligible to be granted an option to purchase our common stock.
