MongoDB is seeking a Senior AI Engineer with advanced software engineering skills to help develop and ship AI-powered features that accelerate customer workload migration to MongoDB. You'll be building a robust AI agent, not just incremental updates, with your work having high visibility and broad impact across the organization.

Organizations face significant challenges with legacy applications including poor scalability, long development cycles, and cloud migration difficulties. Our Application Modernization team is creating solutions and AI-powered tools like the Relational Migrator to guide customers in transitioning from relational databases to our document-based model.

You'll join a team that combines startup agility with enterprise resources, giving you creative freedom and substantial backing. This role requires comfort with breaking down complex problems and working at the forefront of generative AI technologies.

We are seeking candidates located in North America for in-office, remote, or hybrid work options.

What You’ll Do
  • Drive AI projects end to end, working in a cross-functional setting
  • Be a thought leader in the company in the latest developments in the AI field, including following industry trends and the latest papers
  • End to end development of AI applications, including method and model selection, fine-tuning, prompt engineering, performance assessment, and collaboration with engineering teams to integrate AI into broader systems
  • Collaborate with experienced engineers, products and design to continuously evolve and improve AI-powered products
  • Build evaluation and monitoring frameworks for AI products in production
  • Contribute to the development of our agent framework and capabilities
  • Help establish best practices for AI development and deployment
What You Bring To The Table
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, related quantitative field or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in delivering new products in research or startup environments
  • 5+ years of software engineering and/or product engineering experience
  • 2+ years of industry experience in AI with demonstrated results
  • Experience building Generative AI applications, specifically Agentic flows, RAG, or any state of the art methods in leveraging language models
  • Experience building evaluation frameworks for AI applications that leverage foundational models
  • Strong fundamentals in Software Engineering
  • Ability to drive 0-1 / MVP projects, rapid prototyping
What Makes You a Great Fit
  • You thrive in environments with significant uncertainty and enjoy defining problems as much as solving them
  • You're passionate about generative AI technology and stay current with the latest developments
  • You're comfortable taking initiative on new concepts without detailed direction
  • You're excited about joining a growing team and helping shape its culture and direction
You’ll be successful if you
  • Understand our core values and apply them to your work
  • Show curiosity, collaborative thinking, and intellectual honesty
  • Are excited by full-stack and AI technologies
  • Are adaptable and keen to experiment
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
