Job Description

At Vori, Forward Deployed Data Engineers bridge the gap between customer systems and our modern grocery platform. You’ll work closely with onboarding managers to configure Vori for each retailer’s unique needs—reducing out-of-stocks, cutting shrink, and driving efficiency.

As one of the Founding Forward Deployed Data Engineers, you won’t just be implementing processes—you’ll be defining them from the ground up. You’ll create the playbooks, data pipelines, and integration systems that allow Vori to scale from our first customers to thousands of stores.

This role is hands-on with data. You’ll wrangle item files and invoices from POS systems, back-office tools, and ERPs—in formats ranging from CSV and EDI to PDFs and even scanned paper—and connect them seamlessly into Vori. Fluency with SQL and data manipulation is essential.

We’re looking for motivated, detail-oriented engineers who thrive at the intersection of people, data, and infrastructure. If you love solving messy integration problems, collaborating with customers, and making technology work in the real world, you’ll feel right at home at Vori.

Responsibilities:
  • Understand the VoriOS system end to end and interdependencies between the system and its integration components

  • Understanding Customer’s needs to define and configure system specifications

  • Configure and maintain data mappings and reconciliation as an integral part of our operations team

  • Ability to thrive in a cross-functional environment and work closely with Operations, Product, Engineering teams on how to improve workflows and systems end to end

Qualifications
  • 5+ years in FD/Solutions Engineering, or a similar customer-facing technical role, ideally in B2B SaaS or fintech

  • Hybrid skillset — strong backend/data engineering fundamentals + ability to interact directly with customer IT teams.

  • Domain awareness — familiarity with unstructured data, ETL processes and ML/OCR pipelines.

  • Customer empathy — comfort in troubleshooting messy, high-pressure customer environments.

  • Bias for autonomy — capable of managing extraction, ingestion, and pipeline tuning with minimal guidance.

  • SQL, Regex and scripting proficiency and willingness to learn new technologies.

Growth Opportunities
  • Get excited to learn more about complex data systems on the tech side as well as business challenges the grocery industry faces everyday

  • Confront and conquer unique, real-world problems that enhance your problem-solving abilities and challenge you to perform well with high velocity

Expectations
  • You will be stretched and challenged with a large scope of work, and fast paced deadlines. This role is for folks that want to make a dent in a $1T industry — which requires consistent force of will and large doses of daily creativity

  • Vori is NOT a simple 9-5 job 💯. We are building a Seal Team 6 of individuals who work hard, long, and smart to deliver exceptional results on limited resources. As a startup we constantly have to prove our right to exist. But if we win, we have the chance to transform the most fundamental industry on earth — food. Are you in?

Why Vori
  • Mission-driven team building tech that helps local businesses thrive

  • Backed by top investors and advisors from Stripe, Uber, Palantir, and Toast

  • Real revenue, real growth, and a massive market opportunity

  • A chance to shape not just marketing—but the company's future
