We're looking for a senior or staff-level full stack engineer to build the systems and interfaces that help the world's best and brightest build in the U.S.
Our stack is React, TypeScript, and Tailwind on the frontend; Python, PostgreSQL, and GraphQL on the backend.
You'll work across the entire system, from our internal case management tools and applicant-facing portal to the backend APIs, event pipelines, and AI agents that power them. Some of the problems ahead of us:
Building agentic systems that automate complex, multi-step legal workflows end-to-end: drafting, reviewing, filing.
Redesigning our task and workflow orchestration to be more robust and scalable.
Improving the architecture of our backend services, event system, and scheduled job infrastructure.
Shipping polished, fast interfaces for both our internal legal-ops team and our customers.
You have 6+ years shipping product across frontend and backend.
You're comfortable working across TypeScript, Python, and React.
You've led projects end to end across the whole stack and shipped to a large customer base.
You can take a hard problem in a complex, unfamiliar system and drive it to a working solution.
You have high agency, especially for independent research and problem-solving.
You care about the details: clean APIs, fast UIs, well-structured data models.
Lighthouse is an engineering-led company. We get to pick/veto what we build.
We spend a considerable chunk of time with users (the legal operations team, or customers) to find and pick what to build. Some projects our team has worked on include:
A real-time, collaborative text editor using CRDTs
An LLM agent framework with tools for case automation
A custom PDF compilation pipeline on serverless infrastructure
Autonomous letter-drafting agents powered by LLMs
We ship multiple times a day, with a preference for testing ideas out quickly and polishing over time.
We sponsor visas, obviously.
Competitive base and equity, scales with experience.
Competitive medical, dental, and vision benefits.
401k with a 3% company match.
Equipment/office stipend.
Annual team off-site in cool places.
In person in San Francisco or New York.
Lighthouse is an equal opportunity workplace; we welcome people from all backgrounds, communities, and experiences. To apply, email your resume and something you've built to [email protected]. If selected, we'll schedule a call to get to know you better and do a deep technical dive into the work you've chosen to highlight.
