Who we are

Aurora’s mission is to deliver the benefits of self-driving technology safely, quickly, and broadly.

The Aurora Driver will create a new era in mobility and logistics, one that will bring a safer, more efficient, and more accessible future to everyone.

At Aurora, you will tackle massively complex problems alongside other passionate, intelligent individuals, growing as an expert while expanding your knowledge. For the latest news from Aurora, visit aurora.tech or follow us on LinkedIn.

At Aurora, we are building a transportation ecosystem that will make our roads safer, our supply chains more efficient, and mobility more accessible for all. The Tech Foundations organization provides the critical software infrastructure that underpins this mission. We build the cloud platforms, compute frameworks, data systems, and developer tools that enable the entire company to innovate at scale.

About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Technical Program Manager to act as a strategic leader within our Tech Foundations organization. You will be the driving force behind the execution of our most critical infrastructure programs, partnering with engineering leads across our Cloud, Compute, Data, and Developer Platform teams. This role is pivotal in translating our technical vision into a tangible roadmap and ensuring our foundational platforms can meet the ambitious demands of the Aurora Driver.

In this role, you will:

  • Strategic Leadership & Roadmapping: Partner with senior engineering leaders to define, de-risk, and execute the long-term technical roadmap. Ensure programs and staffing are aligned to strategic priorities and serve as a key proxy for engineering leads in organizational and planning matters.
  • Drive Cross-Functional Execution: Lead the delivery of complex, large-scale infrastructure programs that span multiple teams and organizations. Proactively identify and dismantle roadblocks, manage cross-team dependencies, and drive escalations to ensure momentum and progress.
  • Architect Program & Process Excellence: Design and implement a pragmatic program management framework for the Tech Foundations group. You will create the "operating system" that enables our teams to plan, execute, and communicate in unison, while mentoring other TPMs and engineers on project management best practices.
  • Engage Deeply in the Technology: Operate at the architectural level to understand technical designs, challenges, and risks. Ask clarifying questions that sharpen priorities, and propose technical alternatives to drive more effective engineering outcomes.
  • Enhance Communication & Visibility: Establish clear and efficient processes for tracking and communicating program status, risks, and milestones to stakeholders across the company. Ensure there is broad awareness of our progress and its impact on company-wide goals.
  • Optimize Resource & Capacity Planning: Collaborate with engineering leads on quarterly and long-term staffing plans. Provide critical input on prioritization and resource allocation, especially where complex trade-offs exist.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Program Manager, successfully shipping complex software infrastructure or platform products.
  • Deep, hands-on experience with modern, large-scale infrastructure, such as cloud computing platforms (AWS, GCP), automated data pipelines, CI/CD and developer tooling, or distributed compute systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to grasp complex technical concepts and facilitate discussions between senior engineering teams on topics like system architecture, design trade-offs, and operational readiness.
  • Proven expertise in tailoring and applying project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Kanban) to fit the needs of complex, R&D-focused teams.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to bridge gaps between technical and non-technical teams.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in high-stakes domains such as autonomous vehicles, robotics, aerospace, or safety-critical systems.
  • A background working in environments with tight hardware and software integration challenges.
  • Experience scaling infrastructure in a rapidly growing organization.

The base salary range for this position is $150,000 - $240,000 per year.  Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
