Epirus is a high-growth technology company dedicated to overcoming the asymmetric challenges inherent to the future of national security. Our flagship product, Leonidas, is a software-defined high-power microwave system built using intelligent power management techniques that allow power-hungry systems to do more with less.

Job Summary

This is an exciting role in an innovative, high-growth defense technology company. Under an agile development framework, Technical Project Managers at Epirus serve as both scrum masters and product owners, leading research and development efforts from initial planning through delivery of first-article solutions.

As a Principal Technical Project Manager, you will independently lead large, technically complex projects critical to company objectives. You will drive alignment across engineering and operations organizations, remove execution barriers, manage project risk, and ensure successful delivery in a fast-paced development environment.

Principal TPMs serve as execution leaders within the organization, mentoring other TPMs, driving continuous improvement of project management practices, and regularly communicating project status, risks, and recommendations to the executive leadership team.

In this role, you will work closely with talented engineering and operations teams, reporting to the Manager of Technical Project Management within the Engineering and Technology Organization (ETO).

Responsibilities
  • Act as the primary execution owner for large, technically complex projects and strategic initiatives, ensuring successful delivery against technical, schedule, and business objectives
  • Serve as the bridge between ETO and other department stakeholders (e.g., marketing, sales, operations, manufacturing, and business development), driving alignment and resolving cross-functional challenges
  • Create and own agile/hybrid project plans including schedules, budgets, staffing forecasts, risk registers, and other project artifacts
  • Lead interdisciplinary and inter-functional development efforts as the scrum master and co-product owner, ensuring teams remain focused on delivering the highest value to Epirus and its customers
  • Brief executive leadership on project status, risks, opportunities, critical decisions, and execution strategy
  • Mentor and develop Technical Project Managers while helping establish execution standards and best practices across the TPM organization
  • Drive continuous improvement of project management standards, tools, and best practices across the organization
Basic Qualifications
  • B.S. in Engineering or a related technical field AND minimum 8 years of relevant project management experience
  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale, cross-functional technical development projects from concept through delivery
  • Demonstrated ability to derive product requirements from company and customer product roadmaps
  • Strong background in the deployment and integration of hardware and software systems
  • Experienced in providing technical leadership across highly complex projects involving multiple engineering disciplines
  • Demonstrated success mentoring and developing Technical Project Managers and other technical leaders
  • Proven ability to lead technical and non-technical reviews with executive and cross-functional audiences
  • Expertise in developing and managing project assets such as schedules, budgets, and risk registers
  • Demonstrated ability to influence decision-making across multiple organizations without direct authority and effectively communicate with executive leadership and external stakeholders
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Proficiency with JIRA or other agile-enabling software platforms
  • Proficient in MS Project and/or Smartsheet use
  • Prior involvement in DoD development efforts
  • Demonstrated success leading multiple concurrent technical projects in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Superior communication and presentation skills
