The Senior Virtualization System Administrator leads enterprise virtualization operations supporting the SEC ISS contract and SEC OIT infrastructure mission. This role is accountable for leading the design, administration, and continuous optimization of virtualized server platforms to maintain secure, resilient, and high-performing services. In alignment with the PWS, the position supports 24x7x365 operational readiness, incident response, and coordination with the Enterprise Operations Center and adjacent infrastructure teams. The role also supports SEC-directed modernization efforts, including phased workload migration activities as required.
Primary Responsibilities :
Virtualization Platform Administration and Engineering Lead administrative and design activities for enterprise virtualized server infrastructure.
Deploy, configure, and maintain enterprise virtualization platforms.
Manage full VM lifecycle operations, including provisioning, configuration, patching, and decommissioning.
Ensure platform high availability, disaster recovery readiness, and performance tuning across virtual hosts and workloads.
May require participation in on-call or surge support activities depending on operational needs.
Operations, Monitoring, and Incident Resolution
Provide subject matter expertise in troubleshooting complex issues related to virtualized server infrastructure.
Monitor virtualization health, performance, and capacity to proactively identify and remediate operational risk.
Coordinate incident triage, escalation, and service restoration with EOC and cross-functional infrastructure teams.
Maintain SOPs and runbooks for monitoring, escalation, maintenance, and operational continuity.
Team Leadership and Service Delivery Management
Lead technical teams supporting daily system operations for virtualized infrastructure services.
Plan and manage virtualization team workloads, project tasks, and administrative priorities.
Track and report operational status, risks, and performance metrics in support of SLA and governance expectations.
Coordinate planned changes, maintenance windows, and implementation activities under SEC change control practices.
May require participation in on-call or surge support activities depending on operational needs
Security, Compliance, and Modernization
-Enforce secure configuration and patch compliance across virtualization environments.
Align virtualization operations with applicable federal security and compliance requirements.
Support phased migration of workloads as directed by SEC modernization plans.
-Maintain audit-ready technical documentation for platform configuration baselines, changes, and recovery procedures.
Basic Qualifications:
This position is restricted to U.S. citizens only. Applicants must not hold dual citizenship with any other country to be eligible for work under this contract.
The ability to obtain and maintain SEC Public Trust (or higher if required).
Bachelors degree in a relevant field and 8-12 years of experience supporting server virtualization technology in enterprise environments. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
Data Center Virtualization certification or equivalent.
Demonstrated experience leading technical teams supporting system operations.
Experience planning and managing workloads, projects, and administrative functions for virtualization operations.
Administrative and design leadership for virtualized server infrastructure.
Deployment, configuration, and maintenance of enterprise virtualization platforms.
Senior troubleshooting expertise for virtualization-related issues.
Workload, project, and administrative management for virtualization teams.
Incident coordination with EOC and adjacent infrastructure teams in a 24x7x365 enterprise operations environment.
Operational documentation, runbook maintenance, and change-control execution.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience supporting federal civilian agency infrastructure operations under formal SLA and governance models.
Hands-on experience with virtualization workload migration from legacy platforms.
Experience supporting hybrid infrastructure environments spanning on-premises and cloud platforms.
Experience with automation approaches for virtualization operations (for example, scripting or infrastructure-as-code workflows).
ITIL 4 Foundation or similar service management certification in a 24x7 enterprise operations environment.
VMware Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV).
Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration.
ITIL 4 Foundation.
