DockYard is hiring an experienced Senior Web Optimization Engineer (SEO + Typescript) who is passionate about web technologies and has hands-on experience improving search visibility, metadata systems, structured data (JSON-LD/schema), crawlability, internal linking, and performance for large-scale web platforms.

Who We Are

DockYard is a remote-first digital product consultancy. Forward-thinking teams come to us to build digital products that scale as their users, features, and complexity grow.

Using a candid approach to partnerships, we help to upskill teams along the way. The result? More flexibility in how our clients take products from idea to impact.

We don’t just use innovative approaches to product development – we lead them. That’s why visionary companies like Netflix and Apple have trusted us to overcome complex product challenges.

We’re honored to have been included in guides ranging from The Startup Weekly’s Exceptional Workplace Award (2021), The BBJ’s Fast 50 (2021, 2020), Inc 5000 (2020, 2019), and Fast Company’s Best Places to Work for Innovators (2020), amongst others.

The Role

The Senior Web Optimization Engineer will collaborate closely with designers, UX developers, engineers, stakeholders, and clients to improve a high-traffic content platform’s discoverability and user pathways across multiple content types and surfaces.

This role is hands-on and delivery-oriented: you’ll ship production improvements that strengthen metadata consistency, structured data coverage, internal navigation/cross-linking, international SEO readiness, page performance, and overall UX metrics—while working within an iterative consulting environment where priorities can shift.

Responsibilities
  • Implement and maintain SEO foundations across page types: titles/descriptions, canonicals, robots directives, and consistent metadata patterns.

  • Design and evolve metadata template systems and workflows that scale across many content pages and reduce regressions.

  • Implement structured data markup (e.g., JSON-LD/schema) and validate correctness/coverage.

  • Improve crawlability and discoverability by addressing issues related to site structure, indexing signals, and internal pathways.

  • Build and refine internal navigation, cross-linking, and user/search engine pathways to improve content discovery.

  • Support multi-region / multi-language requirements and ensure pages behave correctly across international storefronts/locales.

  • Create and optimize sitemaps and related indexing mechanisms for better search coverage.

  • Optimize page performance and load times with pragmatic engineering improvements and careful tradeoffs.

  • Improve error pages and user guidance to reduce dead-ends and help users recover.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define success criteria, validate impact using analytics/performance tooling, and iterate based on findings.

  • Assist in scoping, estimation, and planning; participate in code reviews, pairing, and knowledge-sharing.

Must Haves
  • Hands-on experience implementing technical SEO improvements on production web apps (metadata, structured data, crawlability, internal linking, performance).

  • Production experience with Svelte/SvelteKit (or equivalent framework - enough to own features end-to-end in an existing codebase).

  • Strong front-end development experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript

  • Experience building and maintaining metadata systems (templates, content modeling, consistency across page types).

  • Hands-on experience implementing structured data (JSON-LD/schema markup) and validating correctness.

  • Experience improving site structure, internal linking, and navigation pathways for both users and crawlers.

  • Experience with performance optimization (load times, rendering, payload sizes, image strategy, etc.).

  • Familiarity with web analytics and using data to validate improvements and spot regressions.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a remote, client-facing environment.

Nice To Haves
  • Experience supporting international SEO and localization at scale (multi-region / multi-language).

  • Experience working with content-heavy platforms (media, publishing, catalogs, large metadata taxonomies).

  • Experience working within monorepos (e.g., NX, Turborepo, Lerna) and familiarity with related tooling.

  • Previous remote working experience.

  • Prior client services, consulting, or freelancing experience.

  • Experience working with external APIs and microservices.
