The Shorex Stable Supervisor is responsible for the safe, efficient, and humane operation of the destination's horseback riding excursion program. This role oversees the daily care and welfare of all horses, supervises stable employees and trail guides, ensures exceptional guest experiences, maintains compliance with safety standards, and protects the natural environment while delivering memorable shore excursions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Horse Care & Stable Operations: 

  • Responsible for the overall health, safety, and welfare of all horses by assisting with daily care, monitoring their physical condition, maintaining accurate health and treatment records, including the coordinating of veterinary services and supervising horse rotation schedules. Ensures the stable facilities, equipment, and riding areas are clean, well-maintained and safe for both horses and employees.

Guest Experience: 

  • Delivers a safe, enjoyable, and memorable horseback riding experience by welcoming guests professionally, conducting comprehensive safety briefings, matching riders with suitable horses based on their abilities and needs, ensuring excursions are conducted safely and efficiently, promptly resolving guest concerns, and continuously monitoring guest feedback to enhance the overall excursion experience. Maintains the highest standards of safety throughout all horseback riding excursions by enforcing established operating procedures, conducting routine inspections of riding equipment, ensuring team preparedness through emergency response training, investigating and documenting incidents, verifying that emergency communication systems are fully operational, and suspending excursions whenever weather or trail conditions pose a risk to the safety of guests, employees, or horses.

Excursion Operations: 

  • Coordinates the daily operation of horseback riding excursions by scheduling activities with the Shore Excursions team, ensuring timely departures and returns, maintaining accurate operational and rider records, verifying that all required waivers and safety protocols are completed before each excursion, and consistently enforcing rider eligibility and weight restrictions to ensure the safety of guests, employees, and horses.

Team Leadership: 

  • Assists with leading and developing the stable operations team by supervising Animal Caretakers, Tour Guides, and Horse Handlers, scheduling staff to meet operational demands and cruise ship schedules, conducting daily pre-shift briefings, and providing training in horse handling, guest service, safety, animal welfare, emergency response, and environmental stewardship. Supports a high-performing team through ongoing coaching, performance management, recruitment, onboarding, performance evaluations, and the consistent application of company policies and disciplinary procedures.

Environmental Stewardship & Compliance: 

  • Promotes environmental stewardship by protecting riding trails and surrounding natural habitats, ensuring environmentally responsible waste management, implementing sustainable operating practices, and educating employees on conservation and environmental protection. Ensures full compliance with all company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), animal welfare regulations, occupational health and safety requirements, cruise line operational standards, local environmental laws, and emergency response procedures to maintain a safe, responsible, and compliant excursion operation.

SKILLS SPECIFICS:

  • Demonstrates strong leadership and a commitment to operational excellence by fostering teamwork, accountability, and integrity while delivering exceptional guest experiences. Applies sound judgment, effective communication, and problem-solving skills to make informed decisions, promote a culture of safety, uphold the highest standards of animal welfare and environmental stewardship, and ensure efficient, compliant, and customer-focused operations.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma required: certification in Animal Science, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 - 5 years experience managing or supervising a stable, ranch or horseback riding excursion operation.
  • Experience working in tourism, hospitality or cruise operations preferred. 
  • First Aid and CPR certification an asset.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in English (spoken and written) to understand and interpret procedures, give and receive instructions, and effectively communicate with guests, managers, and co-workers

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be physically fit. 
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment as needed.
  • May need to stand for long periods of time.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 

  • May be requested to work a shift schedule while at any of the destinations. 
  • Understanding of workplace policies and procedures 
  • Familiarity with team collaboration tools and techniques.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain reliable and consistent attendance 
  • Capacity to be punctual and meet deadlines 
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and work as part of a team 
  • Demonstrated professionalism in all interactions and tasks.
