About AKASA

At AKASA, our mission is to build the future of healthcare with AI. As the leading provider of generative AI solutions for the healthcare revenue cycle, we help health systems comprehensively capture and communicate the full patient clinical journey. By empowering health systems to streamline their operations, they can focus on what matters most - delivering quality patient care. We have raised over $205M in funding from investors such as Andreessen Horowitz, BOND, and Costanoa Ventures.

This is the most exciting time to join AKASA. Revenue bookings for our new AI-native product suite have grown over 20x since launching in 2024. In this time, we have broken our record for the largest deal in company history three times consecutively. This growth is driven by the massive improvement we are generating for our customers across clinical quality and documentation accuracy, both top priority areas for health system leaders.

Our deployments have been recognized nationally as "one of the most comprehensive real-world uses of GenAI in healthcare finance to date" (link). Our customer base represents more than $120B+ in net patient revenue and includes the most innovative health systems in the country, like Cleveland Clinic, Duke, Stanford, and Johns Hopkins.

Some of our most recent recognitions include being named the #1 most promising healthcare RCM startup of 2025 by Black Book Market Research and one of the fastest-growing GenAI startups to watch by AIM Research. Our CEO was ranked among the “Top 50 Healthcare Technology CEOs” by the Healthcare Technology Report, and we have been certified as a “Great Place to Work” for the past five years in a row, just to name a few.

We’re building on this momentum to redefine what’s possible in healthcare. We’re looking for exceptional people to help us accelerate that reality.

Why Join Us

Advisor – an AI assistant for revenue cycle teams – is an early, high-leverage product with real revenue being used by some of the top Health Systems and a huge greenfield runway. Our engineering style is intentionally AI-first: we treat large language models and code-writing assistants (you’ll be working closely with Claude Code) as teammates and development accelerants. If you’re excited about having a real impact on healthcare, shipping products, talking to customers, and shaping what an AI-augmented engineering team looks like, you’ll be a great fit.

The Opportunity

You’ll join a small, product-focused team to evolve Advisor into a single, general, agentic product that revenue cycle teams love. This is a 0→1 / 1→N role: you’ll move fast, iterate with real users, and own features end-to-end from design through testing and deployment.

Short-term impact (first 30–90 days)
You’ll ship concrete, high-impact work quickly:

  • Evolve Advisor from a UI-centric product to a more agentic architecture.

  • Implement external APIs to enhance Advisor’s knowledge base.

  • Explore additional surface areas for the product.

What You'll Do

  • Own feature development for Advisor: design, implement, test and deploy production features (Python backend + modern JS/TS frontend).

  • Collaborate with product, clinical SMEs, and revenue cycle teams to iterate quickly and validate hypotheses.

  • Use Claude Code as a development collaborator: prompt it, review and edit its output, and integrate its work into the codebase and CI pipelines.

  • Design and implement integrations to external APIs for evidence/medical data, ensuring correctness and auditability.

  • Maintain a strong testing culture: unit, integration and E2E tests; continuous delivery via Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Be a pragmatic engineer – ship fast, iterate from real user feedback, and improve systems for scale and reliability.

  • Communicate clearly in writing: design proposals, PR descriptions, and conversations with revenue cycle teams and collaborators.

Skills & Qualifications

  • 5-8 years of work experience

  • Strong hands-on experience with Python and JavaScript/TypeScript (full-stack comfort).

  • Comfortable writing and reading a lot of code, and strong habits around testing and automation.

  • Experience with or eagerness to use Claude Code as a collaborator for software development — you’re comfortable with AI-assisted workflows and want to push them forward.

  • Startup experience and a proven track record of building projects 0→1 (and iterating quickly).

  • Production experience with Postgres (data modeling, migrations, performance).

  • Comfortable with Docker and modern deployment workflows.

  • Comfort working independently and owning user feedback end-to-end

  • Excellent written communication.

Nice To Haves

  • Bias toward action over perfection; self-directed but highly collaborative.

  • Previous experience building or shipping an agent/advisor product or other agentic systems.

  • Familiarity with Kubernetes.

  • Clinical or health-data domain experience (helpful for working with evidence sources).

  • Experience building or maintaining in-browser integrations.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • You’ll work on a product where you can talk to revenue cycle teams every day — no intermediaries — and iterate quickly based on real usage.

  • We’re intentionally experimenting with what AI-augmented teams look like; this role gives you the chance to shape those norms.

  • Advisor already has commercial traction and lots of greenfield opportunities — your work will directly affect product trajectory and business outcomes.

  • Close collaboration with founders and cross-functional teams; real ownership and visibility.

  • AKASA offers a dynamic hybrid working model for this role. This flexible approach gives team members the best of both worlds: plenty of focus time along with in-person collaboration that helps foster trust, innovation, and a strong team culture. Candidates for this role must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area and come to the office located in South San Francisco, 3 days a week - (Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday)

What We Offer

  • Flexible paid time off (PTO)

  • Expansive coverage for health, dental, and vision

  • Generous parental leave policy

  • Full employee coverage for life insurance

  • Cell phone/internet reimbursement

Compensation

  • Based on geo, market data, and other factors, the salary range for this position is $180,000-$210,000 + Equity. However, a salary higher or lower than this range may be appropriate for a candidate whose qualifications differ meaningfully from those listed in the job description.
