About company

GC AI is currently an AI platform for in-house lawyers to 10x themselves. Using the latest LLMs, we are building AI agents that can use company knowledge, leverage external sources, and connect with internal tools to provide better and faster legal advice to the rest of the company. Thousands of weekly active users tell us they “cannot imagine their lives without GC AI” - which has led us to 95% retention and a NPS of 75.

This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build for a $1T annual market. We have jaw-dropping product-market fit - growing our customer base from 0 to 500+ legal teams in a year and 3X ARR growth in the last 4 months. Join our Series A stage rocket ship backed by top investors like Sound Ventures, Fellows Fund, Guillermo Rauch and Worklife Ventures. GC AI is a small but mighty team of lawyers, engineers, sellers and doers. Here, you’ll have infinite room to grow and rethink how legal work gets done.

Come build the future with us.

About the role:

As the Backend Integration Engineer at GC AI, you’ll be the architect behind the data infrastructure that powers how legal teams leverage AI in their daily work. This role goes far beyond building APIs; you’ll be designing the intelligent backbone that transforms raw documents into structured, AI-ready data and keeps our integrations seamless at scale.

You’ll take ownership of critical systems like file ingestion pipelines, two-way sync engines, and document parsing workflows that thousands of users rely on every day. Working closely with our founding team and a group of exceptional engineers, you’ll have the autonomy to make key technical decisions, balance performance with security, and shape how our platform grows.

Why this role matters:

Our platform serves thousands of users who will depend on these integrations daily. You'll be the key architect ensuring our data foundation remains robust, secure, and blazing-fast as we scale. This is a chance to own crucial infrastructure that directly impacts how legal teams harness the power of AI.

You'll be the driving force behind our platform's data foundation, architecting and implementing the critical systems that power our AI capabilities.
What you'll do:

  • Architect and build our file processing backbone, from sophisticated upload systems to seamless two-way sync engines.

  • Design and implement document parsing pipelines that transform raw files into AI-ready data.

  • Shape the technical decisions that balance speed, security, and code quality as we scale.

  • Collaborate with our team of exceptional engineers to push the boundaries of what's possible.

Impact you'll have:
  • Deliver reliable, secure connectors to the systems counsel's lives in (docs, email, chat, ticketing) to unlock end-to-end workflows.

  • Launch admin features (SSO/SCIM, audit logs, DLP hooks) that make enterprise IT say “yes” faster.

  • Reduce integration breakage and latency via resilient job orchestration, backoffs, and health visibility.

  • Help build the leading legal AI platform for in-house teams.

Required Experience:
  • 3+ years of experience building production backend systems.

  • Strong expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, and React.

  • Track record of building API integrations with enterprise systems (Salesforce, Hubspot, SharePoint, Google Drive).

  • Solid understanding of Postgres and database design.

Nice to Have:
  • Experience with modern ORM systems like Drizzle or Prisma.

  • Familiarity with iPaaS platforms (Paragon, Integration.dev, Airbyte).

  • GCP knowledge.

  • Elasticsearch experience.

The Mindset:
  • Problem Solver: You come alive tackling complex challenges without obvious solutions.

  • Ownership-Driven: You take initiative without needing direction and focus on outcomes.

  • Continuous Learner: Your curiosity drives you to constantly level up your engineering skills.

  • Startup DNA: You thrive in fast-paced environments where responsibilities evolve.

What we offer:
Growth & Impact
  • Shape the future of a rapidly growing startup

  • Direct collaboration with founding team

  • Real influence on company strategy and direction

  • A voice that matters - your ideas will be heard and implemented

Environment & Benefits

  • We’re a hybrid company — many roles are remote-friendly, while some teams require meeting in person a couple of days a week in the Bay Area office.

  • High-energy, joyful team environment

  • Mentorship and learning opportunities

  • Clear path for growth in an expanding company

  • Exposure to cutting-edge technologies and practices
